Strange Internet Problem

Ever since I upgraded to an X2 processor, my computer's internet has been acting strange. Pages will load incorrectly or they won't load at all. Sometimes I get weird error messages that I've never seen before like:

Not Found
The requested URL /weather/local/USLA0385 was not found on this server.
________________________________________
Apache/1.3.29 Server at www.amdzone.com Port 80

or

function loadlink(page,premium) {
window.location = "http://www.weather.com/multime...opup/detect.html?page=" + escape(page) + "&premium=" + escape(premium);
}

These problems occur both in Firefox and IE. I've also switched from the nforce4 controller to the marvell and it made no difference. I'm reluctant to do a repair install of windows, because I dual boot with Ubuntu and I don't want to mess that up.

Did these problems start immediately after you upgraded the CPU or was there maybe a day before it started? You could try a system restore back to when it was working fine.

Well, I did a system restore and everything seems fine now. I'm still curious what happened though.

Ok, nevermind. It's still happening. Sometimes it looks like it tries to find something on the current site that was on the previous site. I clicked to go to amdzone.com from weather.com but I got an error page that said

"Not Found
The requested URL /weather/local/USLA0385 was not found on this server.

Why would it be doing that?

Also when I tried post this reply it gave me an error saying "Bad Request (Invalid Verb)"

And if you attach another PC to your network, it has no problems?

What AV and anti-malware applications are you using?

Run MPSReports and send me the output computername.cab file.

You have almost no hotfixes on your system. Go to update.microsoft.com and put them all on there. Report back and let us know if you still have any issues.

Edit: Ah, found them. Please confirm you're not offered any updates on u.m.c.

Also, if you log in under another user account, can you repro all these problems?

What about in safe mode with networking? Still?

What's your IP, and what's the IP of machines that work, including subnet mask and router/gateway info?

I'm not sure what you're asking here. My current ip address is 192.168.1.100, and the router (linksys wrt54g if that helps) starts issuing at 192.168.1.100.

The machines that work are from 192.168.1.101 to ...192.168.1.104. Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and gateway is 192.168.1.1. This is the same for every computer.

You might've mentioned that. :)

What other issues are you having?

What happens when the update process fails? If you do an update, watch it fail, go into C:\windows, sort by date, and there should be a few error logfiles just created - what do you see in them?

Update your Windows updates to all the latest hotfixes and such. Can you now reproduce the issue? If so, you're running something in normal mode (and not safe mode) that's causing this problem. Immediate things to try include:
1. Remove third-party firewalls; as long as you're behind a router anyway it's typically not required
2. Remove third-party malware tools and switch to Windows Defender.
3. Remove third-party antivirus software, but only for the length of time required to validate the problem, then reinstall it.

Bear in mind msconfig can handle most of this for you, quickly, without having to uninstall/reinstall, as a quick test. It's not the perfect test, but it is good for a quick test.
