Strange floppy disk problem

Ok, my gf has several floppy disks that she saves word documents and such on. The strange thing is, on some computers you can open them, on others it says the disk needs to be formatted. What I have noticed is that the machines that can open the files are win 95/98 boxes and the machines that cannot are 2000/xp boxes. I don't know if I am missing something obvious here, but if someone has any idea I would appreciate the help. Feel free to kick me in the head if it is something obvious hehe. Thanks

Nothing obvious. You might check BIOS settings to make sure the correct type and size of floppy drive is selected - and the cable and the drive position.

I have had the same freaking problem with some of the PC's at my work.. even if they're on XP/2000 they're all using FAT32 and SHOULD not have any problems... but i get the same silly deal from time to time... boourns!
