OK i was playing CS just fine until 3am last nite, so around 6pm today, i decide to play. click my shortcut, hit Play CS, click Internet Games, and i get an hourglass and it just hangs, have to close it in task manager. so i defrag (doesn't help) reboot (doesn't help) do a win2k repair (doesn't help) and uninstall, delete the folder, and reinstall (doesn't help)

anyone have any idea what could be going on??

Hmmm Joe. I have been playin TFC for 3 years and CS for about 5 months. I have only had what is happening to you happen to me, when I want to start a LAN game of my own. It sometimes takes 5 minutes and then works... try waiting for quite a long while (it will say "not responding&quot😉 but nevermind that. after 6 minutes it should work. then go back in again and try it... I am not 100% sure if this will work, but it's the best advice i can give you....

hrm, well i'll let it sit there for a while, usually the server screen pops up... also, a chkdsk /r didn't help it either

EDIT: ok i let it sit there forever, nothing... still had to ctrl-alt-del it

haha. Yes, Something must be wrong with WON or somethin to that nature. Looks like you guys are gonna have to wait and or complain to them. =D

Here's a temporary fix

<< I've solved it guys!

Turns out CS tries to connect to the WON servers through their name instead of IP address. WON's DNS is messed up so that's why it freezes.

I found the actual IP addresses corresponding to the names of the WON servers in a DNS cache on a webserver I have and with this we can fix the situation! Just pay attention now

Find the file called woncomm.lst on your harddisk. I actually found three of them, just rename them all to woncomm.lst.old for safekeeping. Next download the following file: http://www.infuse.org/woncomm.zip - that's the same file only with the names replaced by actual IP addresses. Download, unzip and save the woncomm.lst file in it to all the directories where you originally found the woncomm.lst files you renamed.

You're all set! I've tested it on my own machine and it works like a charm. The only problem is that this setup will stop working if WON changes their IP addresses in the future, so it's best to restore the old woncomm.lst.old files again once WON fixes their servers.

Good luck everyone I'm off to do some catching up in CS

Hope that helps!
