I just did a complete re-install on a friends laptop and when everthing was done .I tried to connect to my wireless network, which i am currently connected to on my desktop 3 feet away. When it was scanninging for available networks It didnt find any. I went onto my desktop which is still connected to my network also did not find any avail networks including the one I am currently connected to. Normally there are about 5-6 networks in my area. Has this happened to anyone ???..can the 2 computers be conflicting even though the internet is working on my desktop...??? It doesn't make any sense to me ...

Make sure the wireless card is turned on with the physical switch. Also make sure you aren't using windows zero config AND the wireless client utility at the same time - they will "fight" over each other. Pick one or the other, the wireless client is always better than zero config so if you have the utility installed put zero config as a service to not start and reboot.

In that case make absolutely sure the service is set to not start and under network control panel deselect "let windows manage my wireless".

Other than that possibly a driver problem or maybe antenna is not connected.
