I am running Windows XP with SP2 and all security updates installed. A couple of days ago the bootup started stopping with a blank box showing in the center of the screen. The box is 4"x4", grey and has a blue band across the top with two very small squares and a back slash in the left corner and a red box with a white X (the usual exit icon) on the right. Neither of these symbols is active; i.e. clicking on them has no effect There is a smaller area about 3"x3.5" inches inside the box outlined with a blue line (on the grey background). As I said, the box is blank. At the bottom is an OK button that if clicked allows the boot to continue. The next step after clicking on the OK is the usual Windows Starting screen etc. Given when it occurs, this is clearly in the Windows startup and not related to any other software since none will have had an occasion to be called yet.
I would assume the box I am describing is supposed to show something in it and hoping that someone will recognize from my description what that might be. This is only an annoyance and not a problem since the computer boots after the OK button is clicked. I would like to get rid of it if I could, so help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
