Ok, so I'm working on someone elses computer and here are the specs:

ASUS A8N PREMIUM
X2 3800
WD4000YR
MODSTREAM 520W
OCZ Platinum

I flashed to the newest bios, still the same thing!

During boot when it gets to the black screen where windows loads, it makes a "CLICK" sound- it kind of sounds like the on/off sound. It takes a long time at this screen and boots in to windows, the system feels a bit choppy but I've tested the CPU with prime and the ram with memtest86, not sure what to try now.

Go through and scrub the BIOS. Try changing the power (ACPI I believe it's called) settings to a different version / setup. There are sites online (google something to the effect of "BIOS tweak" or "BIOS guide") that will outline all the options in there, as the manuals usually don't explain what the things do.

Also, check the jumpers on IDE drives (if any). Oh, and disable USB booting devices, and that can take up a lot of time as well.

Hard to diagnose because it doesnt do it every time...... the sound it makes is exactly like the sound it makes when I turn it off.

How often does it take forever to boot? If it isn't every time, what is the frequency that it does happen, would you say?

It happens 4 out of 5 times atleast, just now it clicked like 3-4 times which was a first. It makes the same sound as when it powers off basically...... when it doesnt click it takes the regular time... when it does click it takes maybe 2 minutes?

Flashed to new bios- boot order is CD then HDD, everything else disabled.

Are you having any dropped drives during heavy use (such as a drive just dissappear while defragging or virus scans)? What all hard drives do you have? (I'm trying to get an idea of your electrical load on that PSU).

1x Floppy Drive
Audigy 2 ZS
7800 GT

Okay. Try something. Did you sleeve that PSU, or have it sleeved? If so, unplug the optical drives and the floppy, and reboot a few times. See if you have the same problem. Also, does your mobo move easily in the case? (Is it spaced properly against the mobo tray?)

I honestly don't see how this could be a firmware / software issue. I'm thinking a bad PSU, or a bad connection somewhere.

everything is installed very nicely...... it is modular, but nothing is loose.

the drives were just installed today, so it can't be them.... might just have to RMA the PSU...

blah

Do you happen to have another PSU that you can test with?

going to try that tonight

Testing now with a brand new antec true power...... no go! Running MOBO w/ CPU FAN, HDD & Video Card only!

Same problem........ must have to RMA the MOBO yet again?
