I am having a wierd boot problem. Basically anytime I shut down my computer (not restart, shutdown) it will not boot. When it does not boot, all the fans come on and the hard drive spins up (tried with a couple different disks just in case it was the HDD) but I have a blank screen and it wont post.

Then, if I turn off the switch on the back of the power supply (like unplugging it) and then turn it back on, the system boots and posts no problem. Seems to work everytime. I just started having this problem a few days ago.

My system is

ECS K7S5a with Athlon XP 1700+ (no Overclocking of anyone kind anywhere in the system)
Radeon 8500 128MB (LE Flashed to Retail, BGA memory I guess this could be considered a mild overclock)
Audigy 2
512MB Crucial PC 2100 and 512 MB crucial pc 2700 for 1 GB total
120 GB Western Digital Special Edition 8 MB Cache
Lite 52x24x52 Burner
Floppy Drive
Onboard NIC

Antec 1080 AMG Tower with ANTEC TRUEpower 430 W PSU

4 case fans, 1 proc fan all 80 mm
2 fans in the PSU

I think that sums it up hopefully someone can help me out! Thanks

Suspect BIOS corruption (maybe).

Try resetting/clearing BIOS to default, and try rebooting.

Alright, I will give that a try and post back, thank you.

Should I simply reset to default settings or clear with the jumper?

Resetting the BIOS has no effect. I still have the same problem.

I would appreciate some help, I can't believe that no one has any idea.

This is probably a stupid answer but is your monitor going into a sleep or power saving mode and you are just not seeing anything?

Clear with jumper.

Also, check that connector to/from power switch is firmly inserted in motherboard. And check in BIOS that power switch allows starting computer (if BIOS has that option; most BIOS's have that option).

Yes the jumper is set firmly.

I dont have any problem with the power switch turning the computer on, it is getting power, it just isnt posting. All fans spin, hard drive starts etc, but it wont post until I turn off the power and then turn it on again.

Beginning to suspect motherboard is faulty.

Is it possible to try another motherboard with all your other existing components? If so, and new motherboard works, then your original motherboard is faulty. If so, and new motherboard doesn't work, then it is a mystery.

That was my suspicion for awhile as well but I think I have found the problem

My new ANTEC 430W true power. I swapped it with an old generic 250W and the system works flawlessly once more.

Thats pretty dissapointing. Im going to run it a few more days with this PSU and then swap the other back in just to make sure and then probably have to RMA it.

blank screen, but everything else is running. did you find that the power supply was your problem?

thanks DraVauhn
I studied up on the true 430 before i bought it and thought it was a decent ps. Just unlucky with this one. I'll try another true 430 before i switch. by the way, will my comp just eventually quit or will this continue for awhile?
thanks,
brash
