Strange Beeping!!

Well well... I'm trying to fix up the parents' comp again... This time, they decided to get a new motherboard, but after putting it in, they could not get the computer to work.

I investigated, tried every last thing--changing memory, taking out all the cards, using different/no video cards, messing with power supplies, disconnecting other things, clearing the CMOS...but nada.

Always got the same error: 1 long beep, followed immediately by 2 very short beeps, followed by a two-second pause, then continuous high-pitched beeping. Early on, the monitor triggered activity for a split second, but in subsequent experimentation, that refused to work as well. Considering I tried to use different video cards, I'm lost on how this could be!

I figure it's probably high time to exchange the board...but does anyone know what this means? Is it fixable??

what mobo is it?
what bios do they use - award/phoenix etc?

on award it means something wrong with vga initialisation.
could be vga - most likely [if it is possible to say that about computers]

make sure vga card inserted properly - very fickle about how well pushed into its slot.

Yeah, AGP cards have 2 rows of contacts, make sure its all the way in or it might generate that error. If it IS all the way in, its possible the board is bad, having a bad AGP slot, IF montag451 is right and that beep code is for vga initialization. Please post board model, we can look up beep codes specifically for it

Award and IBM have that beep code as vga.

Phoenix uses groups of 4 i think.

Yes...this is what I was afraid would happen.

This is a very unusual beep code. I already looked up the same things you guys did.

What I didn't tell you is that I also tried PCI video cards as well as not having any video cards in at all, and the error remained unchanged. The board is an ECS KT600-A, and sorry for my not saying earlier. One long beep-two short beeps immediately after-two second pause-continuous high beeping. The KT600-A has a Phoenix BIOS. Good luck if anyone thinks they know this one!
