Wow, I think it's time to buy a shovel for my car :Q

I've been meaning to put together an emergency kit to keep in my trunk... things like road flares (useful for if you have an accident or need to start a fire), a whistle (for signalling), a flashlight w/ extra batteries, some bandages, ponchos, etc. My wife thinks I'm crazy, but I think I better get it done before winter. ;)

You don't need all of that in our kneck of the woods!

No, but if I travel far enough away from home I do. :) The road flares, flashlight(s) and ponchos are what I REALLY want in it, but if I'm going to put an ammo box in the trunk I might as well fill it. We were in an accident last year in a heavy downpour on a highway, that's what prompted the idea.

Flares are fun. I picked up some emergency flares at the Knob Creek Maching Gun Shoot last year (unlike road flares, emergency flares burn REALLY bright and hot for about 30 seconds).

I picked up a nice roadside kit from Walmart awhile back for $29. Has tons of stuff, flashlight, tow rope, etc. Pretty nice, plus has velcro strips on the bottom of the bag for sticking to the carpet in the trunk.

I've heard of people carrying around kitty litter in place of sand for when they get stuck, worth getting any? Seems like it would have a nicer pour container than just a plastic bag of sand :D

YES! Kitty litter is WAY worth it over sand. It's helped my parents out of numerous sitations.

Who needs a roadside kit when you have a Surefire and a pocket knife in your glove compartment. ;)

Thats not true, it snows in flagstaff.

It just doesn't snow in your particular area of Arizona.

Should have made use of that urine stream.

Or something like that.

So you're in Buffalo, and they weren't ready for 8 inches of snow? Isn't that the city where 3 feet of snow only causes 2 hour delays for school?
I'm at college in Erie, and 8" is generally considered really irritating, but it doesn't seem to paralyze the city.
I guess they just weren't ready for so much snow in the middle of October.

I got off the thruways before it got REALLY bad.

Currently I have no power, no hot water, no heat and 2 feet of water in my basement.
