Because it actually works. She got a $40 one for Christmas last year and she has to wash her hair and blow dry it straight first before even attempting to straighten it with the flat iron. If you just go at it dry it just doesn't cut it, or it gets wavy soon after, etc. This one does it in one stroke and adds shine and volume!!!

yep. i think a lot of the effect has to do with the material. metal, ceramic, etc.

my wife swears by chi(sp?) but she dropped and broke hers, so i think ill replace that for her christmas present.

Last one was ceramic, too, didn't work well, though.
