well, unless you want more than the "unofficial" 1.5GB limit... then t-mobile $30/month 5GB 100 min plan looks good too

Whats wrong with T-mobile's $30 unlimited data plan?

100 talk minutes is plenty.

It uses T-Mobiles prepaid network, which is not as good as its post paid network, which is not as widespread as AT&T's network which is why I said overall better. And this has LTE. There are obvious exceptions to every rule, but 100 mins doesn't work for everyone. I don't feel like I use my phone to call much at all but I still average 150 minutes.

It's not 1.5GB
so what is it? I've heard the unofficial limit was 2GB a while back, but was lowered to 1.5GB

sorry 100 minute is no where near "plenty". The StraightTalk ATT Sim is the best deal.
best is relative.. i don't need >100 minutes, so t-mobile's guaranteed 5GB is enough for me in the northeast...

t-mobile has LTE / 42mbps 3.5G too... of course not that good of a network

The $30 plan does not have LTE, nor any other T-Mobile prepaid plan.

100 minutes is 3.5 minutes a day. I don't doubt some people can work with that, but it's not a normal figure that the average person can use. Course if it were me on that plan I'd be using Google Voice and Groove IP so I use data for calls, but I like the better coverage and LTE I get with non-prepaid T-Mobile.

LTE on the $30 plan... hmm

how many minutes do you use? $30/month + $15 (150 minutes at 10 cents per) = 250 minutes, same price as ST w/ 5GB data

I stand corrected on the LTE, I guess I was reading older articles about it?

I personally average 150 minutes, but I'm on regular T-Mobile for the device payment plans, better coverage than prepaid, family plan pricing, etc.

ST uses AT&T's network, which has much better coverage than T-Mobile's prepaid network.

yeah... i'm currently on at&t postpaid (2 lines family plan), but testing the $30 tmobile prepaid service...

at close to half price, i'm willing to take the hit on better coverage.... and I'm in NYC region, so t-mobile service is decent here

anyone with better information on ST's throttling policy?

It's my understanding that both ST and Net10 have removed the soft data cap for AT&T SIM's.

This is now, really, really tempting and a better deal than aio Wireless now as long as the data cap has been removed.

After reading the thread on Howard Forums about this, I think you would be better off using AT&T's GoPhone $60 plan and buying discounted refills at 22% off on eBay.

$60 * .78 = $47/month

With StraightTalk at $45/month, I'd rather pay the $2 extra dollars and not deal with an MVNO. At least with AT&T pre-paid, your data allowance is transparent and easily measurable.

In fact, if I wasn't on T-Mobile's uncarrier family plan, I would probably be on GoPhone right now. But for multiple lines, T-Mobile is still the carrier to beat.

Straight Talk still throttles (when they decide too) and clearly does not permit video streaming .

The price is less . You get a little roaming (which doesn't come with ATT GoPhone or AIO Wireless ).

I have no idea what you guys are doing on your phones to need more than 2GB/month. Work and home should have wifi. If you have cable, you should have free cable wifi in the streets. The other third of the time you should be asleep.

Also tempted to go gophone, but those refills on ebay are shady and also not available always. Most legitimate sites sell the refills for 10% off ($54). So how is everyone on ebay selling for 20% off + ebay fees?

I imagine most are using more via unauthorized tethering but I could see it if for instance you took the train to work and it didn't have WiFi and you wanted to watch netflix on the train.

Fencing obviously. eBay is full of those.

// below=summary of issues I've seen for ST. Dunno if they still apply
It's not just 2gb/month.. ST might cut you off for using >100MB in a day (Google for people that got cut off)

If you know you don't fall into those criteria, then go for St. Otherwise, consider T-Mobile

Don't know, don't care, as long as it works.

It might work, but in a few months once the stolen CC that the person bought the refill with and added it to your account is reported... you got some explaining to do. I have heard they try to send you a bill for the amount.

ST would get a chargeback from the CC since it was bought with a stolen card. They will pass the chargeback onto you. Not sure how that would work since it is prepaid though.

I would still maybe try gophone with the cheap refills, but ST seems safer even if they are shady.
