Stowaway on the AMG

Bird tried to hitch a free ride and got more than he bargained for.

Saw him out of the corner of my eye and tapped the brakes but it wasn't enough, heard the thump and knew he was a goner. But I didn't see him bounce so I had that sinking feeling in my gut that he was stuck somewhere on the front of the car.

Took a bit to get him out, I'll spare you the gory details but he didn't suffer and I got a quick anatomy lesson on small birds. Car is undamaged as far as I can tell, there were some white marks that I thought were chips in the paint but it turned out to be a miscellaneous fluid of some kind.

Anyways, not the best way to start the day.

So you can hit a bird with the front of a car. I'd begun to think it was near impossible.

Poor bird.

And here I thought trolling was a lost art.

Sorry thought it was worth sharing, not everyday you get a bird wedged halfway into your grill.

The last bird that I hit was with my antenna. It *almost* made it. Thwang!!!!!

Before that I hit a pregnant one with my bumper. Smashed egg with bits o bird around it was not fun to clean up.

Not trolling, and it was worth sharing. It's just that every time I've come close to a bird, it goes up and over, so I'd come to the conclusion the air pressure from the car was pushing it away.

Amazingly it wasn't hideous. It was a bit humorous since my wife and I argued about whether or not the bird was actually in the scoop.

Too bad she was right....

Apologies, I thought you were being snarky.

They are usually pretty adept at changing their path ever so slightly at the end to avoid cars, but I think sparky here zigged when he should have zagged.

bizarre, usually they flow over.

I wonder if it would have made it if you didn't slow down.

Not trying to guilt trip or anything.

Yeah that crossed my mind as well.

Squirrels are the worst as far as that goes, no matter what you do they'll find a way to get run over.

suicide squirrels. I think "At least it's not a skunk" when I see that.

I have driven by road kill skunks before. good god the stench.

C55?

I almost hit a turkey on the highway once. damn thing was waddling across the road, and when I switched lanes to avoid it, it took off and flew directly at me. missed my roof by just a couple feet.

Bummer. Glad the car seems ok, though!

Heh that reminds me years ago in FL, I saw a big (dually) pickup truck in front of me hit a buzzard. Feathers everywhere...I think it hit the hood/windshield because it was launched like 20 feet in the air.

once in my work truck, a bird swooped down at top speed towards my windshield. he cleared the glass, but i heard the "wanggggggg" of something hitting my ladder racks. i looked in the mirror and there was a cloud of feathers. no bird tho.

Yes sir.

No damage that I could see, just needs a good wash, which is ok because I have to clean the front of my car daily due to it being lovebug season here in good old FL.

I can't imagine daily driving a C55. I would be shaken to pieces given our shitty roads.

My buddy has one. In fact, it's his fault I ended up with an E350 4Matic...

Wait huh? How did you get trolling from that post? You have a chip on your shoulder or something? lol Anyways glad to hear the car is ok. I bet the "white stuff" was crap. Last thing the bird did. "OH ()*& I'm gonna die"

First you say it then you do it.

All good.

Natural selection at work then. The shiny chrome caught his eye!

Yeah, I read that completely wrong, as in "yeah, big deal, *yawn*"

It's a touch more cushy than an E46 but a lot stiffer than my WRX was, even with springs.

There's a twisty backroad near my house full of patched pavement that I used to bomb around on in my Subie since it's a shortcut to a lot of places.

Did it once with the MB......won't be doing that again, at any speed, ever. 😛

I wouldn't mind a 2012 MB E63 AMG Wagon :sneaky:

I hit one of those gray doves once with the front bumper. It went up and over, and in the rearview all I could see was a cloud of feathers.

My dog chased a rat into the street the other day, and a car ran over it. It was the funniest thing because my dog looked at me right after, and then looked sad, like he knew it was dead...lol
