Little over 9 days before I can go pick mine up, still though I'm hesitant but with my lack of options for a phone "upgrade" I'm left little choice.

Anywho, how's the shipping OS? Anyone have any comments on it?

They should be shipping xxx.75 min. If not, drop it and go directly to the just released 100-105 version. It's easy to do with the Desktop Manager.

Ditto. xxx.75 is what shipped with my phone in December. IIRC that is the latest official release, but as DivideBYZero points out, there have been many beta releases on the way. Rumor is another official release this month, but who knows.

I have stayed with the official release. It has worked well for me. My only gripe is that there is a .5 second to 1 second lag in the display when punching numbers into the keyboard when making a call. So, if I quickly punch in a number it takes a second or so to see all the numbers I punched in. This only happens when making a call -- not when putting a number into the contacts list or anything like that. No big deal to me. So, I haven't bothered to venture beyond the official release that came out in December.

But from the chatter I see in forums, it's not hard to update the OS and it's relatively risk free (just make sure contacts and what-not are backed-up ahead of time).

Happy hunting. Maybe those display models you tried earlier had the old OS on them or got messed up some how. For what it's worth, my Storm has been great so far. Also, they give you 30 days to try out the phone, so keep that in mind if you're apprehensive. I watched my phone like a hawk during my first month and nothing about it made me consider returning it.

At the risk of being a couple days late, I was in the same situation a few weeks ago and went for the Omnia. My step-dad has the Storm, and after spending a few hours at the Verizon store messing around with the phones I went for the Omnia. I liked the form factor, responsiveness, and solidness of it. All the Storms I played with had a loose screen, including the one my step-dad has.
