Well we had a bad storm today and I couldn't get home in time to turn off my computer :( When I did get home the power was out in my room (and my room only) so I checked the breaker box and sure enough my room was flipped off. I turned it back on and my lights came on and I came back in to check on my computer.

No beeps, just spinning fans. I borrowed my cousin's computer and tested my power supply, cpu, video card, memory, etc etc. Everything worked fine in his computer. Which means it must be my motherboard :(

I wasn't able to test my new 2100+ cpu though b/c his k7s5a doesn't have the bios update and he wouldn't let me flash the bios cuz he's scared it'll mess his machine up. (i purchased a 1 year warranty on the cpu though so if it is messed up i can get it replaced) but my duron 1.0ghz I upgraded from works fine in his computer but not in mine.

Sooooo my options...

1) I can try and RMA this board out... I have no receipt though but it should still be under manufacturer warranty right? Does the warranty cover surges?

2) I can buy another K7S5A and wait for it to arrive

3) I can buy a different motherboard... (The only reason I originally purchased the K7S5A was it's price and the dual memory feature. however i no longer have sdram so i don't need those slots. i also don't need any onboard components since i have a pci sound card and pci nic)

One problem I see with getting a different mobo is I have windows XP and when I upgraded to the K7S5A, I had to format and restore b/c Windows XP failed to recognize the new motherboard properly and would not boot. Should I expect that to happen again?

Do I have any other options? What should I do? Please someone help me. I'm already going through serious withdrawals :(

Perhaps you can take the mb w/the 2100+ cpu to a pc shop for testing?
That way you will at least know for sure which one is bad (hopefully it's not both of them).
Options:
Wait for the new SiS746 (ECS L7S7A) like I am patiently doing (NOT!).
Go for one of the new NVidia2 mb's ........ the Asus A7N8X if $$ is not a problem.
Try to find a VERY inexpensive replacement K7S5A (refurb?) from NewEgg or somewhere.
Just a few suggestions.

Although, your parts tested ok you may have intermittent problems with one or all of them. That's what happened at our office a while back. We had to replace everything. Not to say that you will, but you might.

There's that many reasons to shut off a PC? :)
Let's see....component damage, upgrades, modding, taking it to LAN parties... Why else turn it off?:D:p
