If I remove the IHS on my Opty, will I have to use new screws with the Swiftech Storm?

First of all, DON'T REMOVE THE IHS!!

Now that we have that outta the way, I don't think so, but I may be wrong.

So why can't I remove the IHS?

I've heard the Storm really shines when you remove the IHS. Also it can increase OC by a few mhz, and lowers the temps at the same time.

I'm prepared to take the risk. It's not like it's that hard.

Just make sure the heatsink is level on the cpu dye

So I gather it's one of those "try it and see if it works" kind of thing?
Alright then, I'll give it a try.

You might get a better OC, you might not, it depends on 1) what the CPU is willing to do in the first place, and 2) how good (or bad) the thermal junction underneath the IHS was to begin with.

It's your chip, I'm not going to tell you what to do with it. I'll just tell you to not be surprised if you get bupkus for having done it. ;)

Don't worry, I'm careful. I'll use the guide from these forums and take it slow.

And your right, it's my chip, I'll do whatever the fvck I want with it ;) :p

That was just a disclaimer. That way when you come back and tell us you killed your pressure proc, I can tell you "I told you so."

whats the big deal with removing the IHS? In some of the other forums people laugh at you if dont take it off....Wizboy is water cooling, the mounting should have less of a problem chipping the die than an air cooler would.

Guys, I was just warning him of the dangers because I've seen people lose $400+ cpu's doing it. Not my cpu, do what you want.
