Storing your spare 'puter hardware. How?

How does everyone else store their spare PC hardware? Like Hard Drives, Vid Cards, Memory, and such. I've got a couple boxes full of hardware in antistat bags, but it's a pain in the A@@ to find anything. Plus I hate stacking boards on top of one another, too easy to break a cap or something off if I'm not careful. Never mind my 2yr old son!

Anyone got a better way? I'd be up for buying something relatively cheap that works. One thing I could think of is some sort of cabinet with lots of shelves that are only a few inches apart. That way you could get like 6-8 shelves into something that's 2 foot tall. But where would I find something like that? I know a mechanics tool chest would work pretty well, but those are WAY too expensive. I'm thinking something less than $50.

Suggestions?

Make your own shelf? That way you can make all the different shevles perfect distances apart, and you can mak ethe right # of shelves too. Depending on how good of a job you would want to do on it, it wouldnt take that long, if you have any sort of carpentry history. Remeber, you can use it forever though, so it could be a very good investment.

That is pretty nifty. It would take care of the cards I have. Although I would still worry about ESD.

yeah sell the stuff while it still has value
I'm a pack rat, plus I always seem to need something right after I sell it/ throw it out. :)

I would build something myself, and probably will end up doing so. I wanted to see if there was something else out there that may work as well. With working 50+ hrs a week and taking care of a 2yr old I don't have a whole lot of free time. Not unless my son is sleeping like he is now. :)

Anybody else got any other ideas or seen anything cool that could help me or anyone else who's got a lot of spare parts lying around?

i use small/deep enough boxes that they stand on end (the cards that is)

i got an awesome 20 slot foam HD box from somebody either here or Arstechnica when they were "quitting the hardware hobby"
i got 13 drives and the box for $90 shipped :D (they weren't that big of drives, it was over a year ago)

ram and cpu i keep on the top shelf, way up high

I was thinking about possibly going that route too, provided I can find anything like that. I was also thinking about checking with a supply/general parts company like Grangier (sp?) or something like that. The boxes wouldn't have to be terribly durable. Just strong enough to hold a board on edge in. The problem is finding any.

Hmmm....

cardboard boxes for the cheap stuff, I went and got some plastic carts with wheels and deep sliding drawers on sale at target, you can get them most places. They were perfect size for MBs. :) They have some with a variety of shelf sizes too. These could be stackable if you didn't attach the wheels (designed to stack). :)

Although I like Evadman's card rack. :)

Methinks I am going to have to make a bunch to sell here :)

If you want to build one, PM me and I will help you through it. The tap is not easy to find, it is a 6-32. Craftsman makes one. if the bar is aluminum like this one, it is easy enough to put threads in even for someone who has never used a tap before.

and I may be willing to make one or 2 for people who don't have the time. Probably about $10 for 2' or so.
