They are Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems.

back in my BB days we would slap a bunch of the magnetic stickers on the nerdy kid and ask him to run outside real quick, good times.

Just about every time I buy something from BB, the fucking things go off as I'm leaving the store. It gets kind of annoying.
