I'm looking for an old laptop - something I'll just use for word processing. I'm thinking about getting a netbook but figure a laptop might be better due to the keyboard size.

I know ebays a good source for used/refurbs but I'd prefer dealing with an online store vs. an ebay seller.

Thanks!

P.S. delloutlet's cool but I need something far more basic than their basic systems

AT FS/FT forum is a good bet usually.... I picked up a P3 laptop from a forum member about 5 years ago, still runs but gave it to a friend who could use it, I also picked up a P4 lappie there from a forum member which works great and I've been very happy with it.

Also, stores like geeks.com will sometimes have something decent and cheap, but usually they are priced above the forum prices...

If you only need one, get it from FS/FT. People here offer fair prices in comparison to jsut about everywhere else. The sellers here are fairly professional, too, so unless you need a warranty, I would go with an AT seller.

Dell Financial Services - legit OS and 100-day warranty. A co-worker bought a couple of D610s for a charity and they were in nice shape.

DFS Direct Sales

The current deal on the site is $50 off on $399 + laptops.

I remember seeing TigerDirect selling refurb IBM laptops. Don't know if they still do or if they sell online, but you can check them out.

I would just buy from here, hardforums, ars, etc.

If you are looking for something more specific, there are GOOD ebay sellers out there. You just have to find them.

USAnotebook.com

I used them a few times. Good prices and service. Most of the notebooks I purchased came with new KB's installed. All were clean with fresh installs.

if youre looking for the "safety" of the online store, take a look at pretty much all the major brand sites, most of them have a refurb/ reman section with tons of deals. same as places like insight.com and cdw.com.
