Man, this one sucks. Saw this over at 2cpu. Server leases run out on the 28th and that will be the end of the site barring some miracle. The uniqueness of this site makes its loss worse than even some of the other major sites of recent memory as its resources, message board, and database are irreplaceable. Pretty sad seeing all these old school sites go under.

I'd be happy to host them...can I contact them about it?
 
I agree, it is really sad. SR has long been the best for HDD/optical drive reviews.
A few members are trying to work up a fund to keep SR alive, so there is a small hope...
 
Dao, a lot of people are trying to .. doesnt look like Davin is going to let someone else host it though .. SR is the only serious "storage review" site i know .. the only site that has any decent coverage on RAID and SCSI devices .. .. hopefully something will change and they will stay online ..

I will always remember and love their reviews.
 
Maybe Anand shoud by them out, leaving them responsible for content. After all, storage is hardly Anands strong suit.
 
Stan, i agree, but, check the forums over at SR, whats left of the,. i think Davin and them will take SR to the grave with them .. though i agree with what you said, there just isnt any serious storage review sites out there besides SR ..

This freakin blows! I have relied on their opinions and reviews for many purchases. They are honestly a review site that cannot be compared to any other, nor replaced by any other. I hope that something changes so they'll be there next time I type in their address. 🙁
 
what's the big deal?
I mean.. losing forum data is not that problem for a site that big.
I understand anandtech forums gets umm.. cleared after some time?
 
theplanb: it's not the data loss....SR is just plain out of money. They can't afford to continue once their lease is over.

The loss of data has nothing to do with SR shutting down. To put it simply, financial matters are the primary reason. They simply don't have the cash flow to keep SR running.
 
I'm sure if someone buy out SR, they'll eventually gain that money back if their ads sells. SR has been around for quite a while. You can't go wrong buying a site like that out. just have to come up with the cash to live it through these hard times for the computer industry.
 
It's sad to see them go. StorageReview was the only real site that had good objective reviews of hard drives and CD(RW) drives. I have bought most of my drives based on their reviews.
