Has anyone tried out Storage Spaces on Windows 8 Consumer Preview? It seems like everyone is so caught up in the GUI changes that they forgot about the other features. I'd love to see some speed and stability stats. It would be even better if Anandtech would do a formal review.

Seconded. As of right now windows 8 isn't gonna be my desktop OS, so I'd love to see if its worth it as a server OS with the new drive extender functionality.

I've given Storage Spaces a cursory test as a backup destination, using 3 1Tb drives combined with the parity method.

What I found was that writing to a Storage Space over the network was very slow, I think the average for a big backup was about 7MB/s. Writing to a normal shared drive was nice and fast.

I have been searching for information on others' experiences to see if there something wrong with my setup or not, but haven't found anything much yet.

I would be very interested to hear if anyone else has different results.

I agree. There are some very nice new features. I have however not tried storage spaces yet.

From what I've found online, there is a bug with the current version of Storage Spaces. I haven't confirmed it yet. However, if you have multiple drives of different sizes, Storage Spaces will only be able to use the amount of space equivalent to the smallest drive on each of the larger drives. For example, if you connect a 1TB, 2TB, and 3TB drive, you will only have 3 TB of space available (1TB per drive). Unfortunately, I only have one spare drive to experiment with. As soon as I get another, I will post my findings.
