So, if I want to back up up to 10gb and not have to worry about anything happening to the data stored...

What are my options? Right now I have a second internal HD... the problem is somehow the partition got deleted and I lost a lot of files that will take weeks if not months to replace.

I don't really like tape... its slow if you want to be able to access your files often.
Zip discs and CDs are too small.

External HD's the answer? What are my other options?

An internal hard drive is the cheapest way. Even if you don't have a free IDE connector now, you can add a RAID card to get another port and that's probably cheaper than an external drive (and faster). External drives are good also, but you need to go USB 2.0 or FireWire. The only other thing I can think of is a DVD writer. Thats 4.7 GB per disk. A little over $200 for the hardware and $2 to $5 per disk (RW closer to $10).
