Stopping AIM from coming to front

I was playing Freedom Fighters and when I get an IM, AIM trys to come to front but this always freezes Freedom Fighters. This usually does not happen with other programs, and I can switch out of this game manually myself, but AIM likes to mess it up.

Anyway....

is there anyway to stop AIM from coming to front when I receive a NEW instant message? I don't see it in preferences....

Also, i found this:
http://www.aol.com/aim/faq/connection.html#active
but that registry file is NOT there, and I don't think that would solve my problem anyway.

Any suggestions?

P.S. Something also keeps not allowing my AIM from going to Idle and my monitor from shutting off after the 15 minutes I have it set to...whats the deal? Adaware/Spybot/Norton (all upgraded) is finding nothing.....

the AIM compatable Instant messanger (works with almost all the standard IM)

miranda

by default does come to front, it cosumes much less resources than AIM and having it run in the background will also help with CPU cycles and increase performance. It also has much less bloat and i believe it has an import feature to bring your stuff from AOL to it. sorry, i know its not constructive, just a alternative.

Actually, I just found and DLed Tweak UI....thanks though.

About the lack of Idling...it happened to my roomate first, then to me. It could be something on the school network? I'm not sure what process could be doing it.

i didnt know that

(edit: yes thats an @$$hole thing to say, but people have alreadty told me that, and Im aware of that possibility, but with away messages people dont IM you bc you have one up, and I'd rather have people IM me when they want to talk).

How are you going to talk to them if you're playing a game? They'll see you're not away and not idle and yet not responding and think you're ignoring them. Not smart.

the problem was when AIM switched out of the game, it didnt work (it didnt go out of theprogram, just froze) but when I paused and switched out, it worked fine.

Anyway, it's not really important I was just wondering if I could make AIM not do that....and I did find a way.

Tweak UI worked fine (a good suggestion, thanks)
and Deadaim also solved my problems.
