I was wondering where should I stay if I were to be around on foot? I'll be stopping there for a night before heading out. I was thinking of staying at either of these hotel:

Clift Hotel
Handlery Union Square Hotel

Also, what should I do around San Frans? What are the good eateries and what not ( I'm okie with everything. Not so much mexican food ). Not really into museums or building architectures. :)

edit:

I would be getting a prepaid line. T-mobile or AT&T?? Would spend most of my time in CA. Specifically folsom.

Dude. Do a search for this. There's a thread for things to do in SF like every 2 weeks.

I did......not much came up. Not really the info I was looking for. Am looking for things that a local would recommend so can't really google it.

Okay. What are you interested in? There are all the touristy spots like coit tower, pier39 etc. If you like wine, go to Napa this time of year. Check out Sausalito across the Golden Gate bridge. If you like nice views, check out the Marin Headlands opposite Sausalito on the same side of the bridge. Point Reyes National Seashore is a great place if you like the salty air and want some views. Drive down to Monterey, Santa Cruz, Carmel and check out Big Sur. The views there are amazing and you'll see whales going by occasionally.
If you like hiking, there are trails all around. If you want beaches, check out Baker beach in SF near the Presido but be aware of the fat nudies that wander out of their areas.
I'd recommend restaurants in SF but that's easy enough just to check Yelp. I do like Brazilian food so I recommend Bossa Nova. If you like Indian/Pakistani food then I recommend you check out Chutneys. The only thing is that it's in a bad neighborhood but it's worth it.

Zillion other places here to see and experience that I haven't added. But it all depends on what you like to do.

Look at bums
Sit in a hippie circle
Join a parade
Cross the bridge to Oakland and dodge bullets

Just a minor correction... you're not havign a layover, that's a stopover. Layovers are less than 24 hours, stopovers more.

That was your PSA :)

There you go. Thanks for the info. As far as food goes, is seafood any good there?? Kinda into crabs + any kinda fish.....I take it that there are various restaurants at the wharf right?

I'll be honest and say that based on all the other major cities I've been to, the BART transit system is by far the best. You can catch the BART train right from the airport and will take you right into downtown San Fran. I remember it was very cheap for a day pass and usually got to where I was going very quickly.

I highly suggest checking out the Ghiradelli Choclate Factory and Fishermans Wharf (since they are basically right next to one another). Chinatown is absolutely amazing because you will get by far the best chinese food, in my honest opinion, in the states. I can't tell you anything about the hotels there because I did not stay overnight, but it should be fairly easy to look up the Bart Transit system, check out the train map and see what hotels it might pass.

Thanks for the feedback billy. I'll add Ghiradelli to my list of places to visit since I'm a chocolate fan myself.

Another thing. I would be getting a prepaid, T mobile or AT&T?
