With the massive amounts of volume that the USPS handles daily, I'm amazed it works as well as it does. Granted, the lines at the customer service windows sometimes gets a little annoying, but those can be avoided by doing the work online and just dropping stuff off.
I am - because I remember not long ago when it was 24 cents. Do you complain about the price of gas? Why, when you can drive 30 miles for less than $2?

Uh, no, I don't complain about the price of gas. In fact, I think it's rather cheap compared to the rest of the world. I drive a fuel efficient car, walk to work, and fill up when I need it.

There seem to be a couple people here who just like to rail against the Government whether logic supports you or not. So since I can make any number of factual responses to your other posts that you will simply ignore and respond "BUT IT'S THE GOVERNMENT!", I'll just suggest you go down to the post office and ask them to stop delivering your mail.

Enjoy paying $3 a pop to UPS your christmas card this year.

Have any of you really had problems with the USPS ?

I had problems with UPS and Airbourne express but the USPS has done it's job for the most part.

If you really have the nads to reform the federal system then go reform credit card rules. Its the modern day equivalent to indentured servitude - and its happening to your children and mine. Kids barely out of high school are getting credit when they have absolutely no business borrowing the likes of $20,000 to $30,000. Its yours and mine money that the credit card companies are loaning out.

The USPS is a drop in the bucket as compared to the credit card companies.

Who said anything about credit card companies? Talk about going off topic.

That is not to include the other thousands of people who are contractors for USPS. This would have huge negative effects on our economy. Not very well thought out if you ask me.

Guess what? I'm sure you're a bright guy, and whether YOU believe it or not, I believe you, like most of the rest of us, would find another way to make a living. The answer isn't to create protected monopolies in order to save jobs. Let the free market do what it does best and we'll all profit from it.

Yes the postal service turned a $3billion profit. Said profits go towards paying back its debt to the US Govt. The postal service has only ran a profit the past two years. It ran losses of ~$650million in 2002, $3billion in 2001 and $1.8 Billion in 2000 IIRC.

UPS Does not have a branch office in every hick town you go to. It costs a lot of money to run all those small post offices.
