Stop the PC from accessing the floppy drive!

Hi,

Some time ago, my computer started doing this odd thing: it accesses the floppy drive out of the blue (even though there's nothing in it), stutters a few times and shuts up.

The damn routine is very noisy, too.

My guess is that it might be trying to access a document or program that was once opened directly from the floppy (I don't know what). I tried to clear the TEMP folders, but still nothing.

Any advice?

Have you tried removing any anti-virus software programs? Or do you have compression/auto mount floppy drive on?
Just a few suggestions.

No, I haven't removed any anti-virus. Should I?

I don't have compression, or Find Fast, whatever that is.

This flopy problem appeared suddenly, after a few days in which I used the drive more than usual (swapping disks and stuff).

Any other suggestions?

do you have office97?

when you install it, it installs a stupid feature called findfast. apparently, its suppose to "update" indexs and documents so that you can search for documents faster. so, it updates the floppy too. you can disable it by going start-> settings->control->findfast.

ok

Thanks,

OK,I stopped the Find Fast thingie (never knew it's there!)

Hope this will be the end of it.

By the way, the floppy wasn't in the Find fast window, though... only the hard drive. I deleted the list and stopped the program.

Should I do anything else? I'm defragmenting my HD now, but I'll wait and see if the floppy is accessed again.

Thanks much.
