This almost deserves a sticky considering how many "@$#!$%ing Telemarketers!!!" threads appear here.

Or you might want to try one of the Telezapper things.. I believe that they just intercept the call and tells anyone who is a telemarketer to hang up.

To add for those that might not know yet - in Pennsylvania they just passed a law that will give PA a no call list as well. They also made it illegal for telemarketers to block caller id as a stopgap measure until the no call list goes into action (supposed to happen in another couple of weeks or so).

god i hate those calls, they call and wake me up everymorning! even when i tell them i don't want it then they'll start sending me stuff int he mail! argh! at least 20+ calls a day, whats dumb, is they don't even research who they are calling, i don't know how many times they have said is "mr. or mrs. --------" there when only my dad lives here and my mom doesn't.

All you have to do is say please put me on your do not call list !

That's all there is to it.... the more annoying or mean you are to the person the less likey they are to do it.

Not true, they are required by law to put you on the list if you ask them to. Thus, you can f*ck with them for a few minutes and then ask to be added to their no-call list.

Best of both worlds.:D

you're telling me that if you were a telemarketer and somebody was being a complete ass to you, just tearing you a new one for calling.. and asked to be put on your do not call list you would just do it kindly? i know i did, but then there were times when i didn't... they don't have people watching thier backs 24/7... sure they "could" get caught... but probably not

If they don't wanna get fired they'll do it. The company they work for will incur fines if they fail to put you on the list if you request them to and then call you again after that request is made. The law is the law and all it takes is one guy like me (who keeps a list of those whose list he is supposed to be on and the name of the telemarketer who called....also required to be given) and they make the mistake of calling me twice because some irritated telemarketer decided not to put me on the list 'cuz I was rude. Bye-bye job.

FWIW- most of the time I just interrupt them immediately and make the no-call list request, but I'll make a point of being a dickhead for a few minutes if they happen to interrupt my supper. Just a pet peeve of mine.;)

You can also stop them by ripping all the phones off the wall and smashing them. This is a permanent solution, you will never have one call again.

thats how it should work, but when i worked for a surveying company, if someone was and ass to me i would just set it up so they would get called back, if they were nice i would take them off the list if they asked. i dont think there are many people that keep lists of who calls them.

Once again... (I swear noone listens to me)

Call your phone company and get the call intercept service. It costs $1 per month and intercepts every call that has a Caller ID Not Listed flag. 100% of telemarketers hang up when they hit this point. If someone wants to get through after that all they have to do is say their name and you can decide if you want to talk to them or not. It is guaranteed, we went from a bunch of calls a night to 0 calls the next night. I haven't recieved 1 telemarketer call since I activated that service months ago.
