I'm building a computer for a friend, its his Christmas present to himself. Basicly, he is salvaging some parts from his old Tbird machine, such as hard drive, sound card, monitor, and video card. His new system will be a P4 2.6C with 512 DDR400. Because of his budget, he is not sure if he can afford a new video card as well. Unfortunately, his current card is a GF1 DDR. He mentioned wanting a Radeon 9800 Pro, which is 305 at Newegg. Since he is not putting the system together until around Dec 20th, the nextgen cards will be right around the corner. A GF4 Ti4200 is 90 at Newegg, which is a pretty solid card, and leaps and bounds ahead of his GF1 DDR. But it is just a stop gap measure.
What would you do? Stop gap, or tough it out with the GF1?
