Stop Errors with AdAware?

I updated Adaware 6.0 and it crashed W2Ksp3 three times in succession (twice with stop errors in ntokern, and once just a complete lock-up). It seemed to crash at the same place every time - after about 40,000 files scanned and in a folder with HP scanner files.

Anyone had similar events or have an idea what is going on?

Sounds like it is fooling around with functions in 2000 that it shouldn't be messing with. Try uninstalling adaware and then reinstalling and then run it again. Also, be sure that your antivirus software is up to date and runnning so that it is not a virus trying to hide itself from the scanning software. Another consideration, see if you can set adaware not to scan the hp folder, if that is where the problem is then don't scan that folder. Poorly coded drivers are one of the biggest reasons you would get a crash in 2000, see if the error screen gives you any info.

that all makes good sense. If its a buggy code problem HP scanner software would be an expected location, since it marries OCR software by others and HP drivers into a notoriously short half-life. I also jsut instaled a new HP business printer - that might be it.

Odd that it didn't happen before. My AV is up to date, and all the spam is held back by my ISPs filters, so I'd be surprised if it was viral. I'll try blocking out the folder - thanks for the suggestions.
