Stone houses - do you like them?

I was driving to work this morning and noticed how few stone houses there are, even thought I was driving through a pretty upscale neighborhood. I personally love stone houses and I think they look awesome, however, I started wondering why there aren't that many of them? Are they more expensive? Do they get too cold or too hot? What're your thoughts?

If you live in one, you shouldn't throw glass.

I think they look awesome. I don't know anything about maintenance, cost or heat retention.

yea they are cool, the reason you dont see as many is because it costs more to build one

I love stone houses, but only those built with the larger stones. I hate the ones with the really tiny stones, and it seems they've been building them with increased frequency around my neighborhood.

Stone is expensive to buy and the labor invovled is quite intensive because of the weight and irregular shapes of the stones.

There are quite a few around here. I think they're very expensive to build due to the materials and the labor involved in putting them all together.

Yeah, I was talking about the larger ones. Usually they use alternating colors - white, gray, cream... Looks awesome.

I love stone! but brick can be nice too, as long as it's really brick, and not just some dumb facade.

I LOVE them. they look so warm and inviting. I have seen a few in my area, but not too many. they are usually older. The ones i have seen that are newer are just a stone facade.

I would love a stone home! so pretty!

Yea, laying stone is something of an art. You see alot of stone veneer, but very rare to see actual stone construction anymore. I love the old stone farmhouses back in PA.

They always remind me of some pastoral English cottage or the like. Personally I adore the mediterranean style but I have nothing against stone homes.

Damn it, as soon as I saw the title I thought I was going to be clever and make a glass house joke.
