Anyone had this beer before?

I just got on a list to buy a 3 liter bottle (flip top) at $80. Thats roughly 9 12ounce beers at about $9/beer.

I'm a little unsure if I want to spend that much so I'd thought I check here to see if anyone has had it before and what they thought of it.

TIA

HBD

This is a no win situation. If you buy it and you don't like it, you just wasted $80. If you buy it and do like it, you are going to have to spend another $80 to get more.

So I voted yes.

I'm guessing that's an IPA? I would, but shit man that's a lot of beer - it doesn't look resealable like a Utopias.

flip tops are resealable... I'd pay a little money for the bottle alone (for my homebrew).

anyone actually had the beer before?

I haven't had it, but I'd buy it if I wasn't strapped for cash. Gotta expand the pallet and try new things. In the long run 80$ is nothing, especially if you get a few buddies together -- maybe have a "top-shelf" beer tasting!

It's a really good IPA, but I think you can get it cheaper than $9 a bottle. You're paying for the bottle.

I have had it, it was pretty good, just not my type. If this were their Anniversary IPA I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I  Stone Brewery.

It's not an IPA, it's a strong ale (basically just an overproof ale). I've had it and it's absolutely delicious. You can't find it cheaper though? When I had it a couple years ago it was 7 bucks for a 22 oz bottle. Payin 10 for 12oz is a bit steep. But still, a delicious beer that everyone should try at least once (especially beer fans), so if you can't find it cheaper elsewhere, get it.

I don't think it makes to the distributors here in WI. One local is getting some through a special shipment. They're only getting the 3 liter bottles.

The double bastard is quite tasty, but I'm not sure 80 bucks is anywhere near worth it. Last time I got it, I think I paid ~8 or 9 for a 750ml.

I don't like it. I pretty much don't like anything Stone makes. All my buddies disagree with me though.

Hopefully your tastes are not like mine.

I got the 3 liter bottle for my birthday a year and a half ago. Had planned to share it with a friend who was briefly passing back through the states on his way to his new expat digs, but it didn't work out.

Next big event was the bachelor party. It's a good beer and I think you should do it. It's not quite my type, as I remember maybe a little bit sweeter than I like, but still very good. Unfortunately only a certain number of my friends would appreciate it and several could not make it to the bachelor party. So for the pregame, there were 3 of us working on the bottle, and while the other two had 16oz cups, I had my antique 1.5 liter german stein and felt the need to help get the night going so we could depart to the bars. It should be noted that this alcohol content on this tasty beverage is iirc 10%. To my detriment, I neglected to respect this fact. The bastard had help with other beverages, but the long and the short of it is that I was in bed at midnight having only made it to a handful of local german pubs who were putting on an octoberfest celebration.

Thankfully I picked well, and after some moping the new wife suggested of her own accord that I might want to have a do-over bachelor party.

We picked the bottle up at the local big box brand liqour store. Got to meet some of the Stone people at a pint night event at a local pub where they brought the only keg of vertical epic in the state. Local stone ad guy was real friendly, gave me his card and said to drop him a line when I made it out for the brewery tour, but I doubt anythign will come of it.

Much stronger, much higher alcohol percentage. I believe its about 10 or 11%.

I voted yes just for the "DO NOT ACCEPT" links trying to gain access to their main page.

Arrogant Bastard is so damn good....Double Bastard would have to be twice as good, no?

my corner market sells 22oz Arrogant for $3.79. Cheapest I can find in the area.

Stone also sells oak-casked Arrogant Bastard in 12-ox 6 packs for ~$13. Still haven't tried.

yeah, definitely not an IPA. great hop taste, but also strong Ale malty goodness. Sex in a bottle is what it is.

I'm a big fan of the Oaked Arrogant Bastard. It's got the same delicious flavor of Arrogant Bastard, but there is a very strong oak flavor that really blends in well and rounds out the overall taste of the beer. It seems a little smoother than regular Arrogant Bastard too, though AB is not that harsh to begin with.
