I'm wanting some feedback on a good site for doing stock trades. Currently, I'm using Sharebuilder, but that the site has become unreliable. For the past few weeks, the site has been inaccessible during long periods of time. Today, I was trying to setup a trade and it just went to an error page and now the main site won't come up. I'm not doing a lot of trading during the day and I'm fine with paying a fee per trade. Any recommendations?

eTrade also has saving accounts with decent APYs, so you can transfer money next to instantaneously if you open one.

zecco has been good so far, no hiccups but they recently increased their fees. I think its $4.50 a transaction and if you've 25k worth in your account then 10 trades/month is free.

If you buy only stocks... Sogotrade is the cheapest I can find @ $3/trade.

If you want options trading as well... Tradeking offers $5 trades and $ .65 per options contract.

Tradeking is highly rated, sogo is pretty new I think.

KentState: stick it out with sharebuilder for 2 weeks. Give them a week or two to settle down and get their shit together. I talked to a guy who convinced me to stay around in their customer service this morning. Very down to earth, even said things like "This shit sucks", etc.

For what its worth, they are offering free phone trades on the phone right now. Use today to buy or sell that commission free stock :)

I'm sorry but if you're dealing with something like stock trading and you can't access your portfolio for huge lengths of time that is absolute suicide.

OP, get TDameritrade or ETrade. I've heard good things about Etrade, and myself I've used TD for years with 0 problems. I've heard scottrade can be sketchy for orders, a lot of people I know end up having to phone them in.

When I opened my Scottrade account a few years ago, there was no free way to transfer money into the account electronically. Not sure if they've changed that since then. I dropped checks off at their office to fund my account.

MrMatt: Any other fees other than the $9.95? Large order surcharge or anything?

sharebuilder is starting to really piss me off w/ this website downtime.

this is totally unacceptable. last time this happened they gave us free trades, i'm hoping they make good on this. this is complete bullshit. i can understand it happening once, but when it continues to happen....

i'll give them a few more hours before i call and threaten to cancel.

Been two hours now and I still can't execute any trades online.

So, what does it take to transfer my stocks over to eTrade from Sharebuilder?
