stock retail heatsink for phenom 2 810 and ebay sale

I sold a retail phenom 2 810 on ebay after using it for 2.5 years and the seller is claiming i switched the heatsink for one that is used for 65TDP parts.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290627605067&ssPageName=ADME:L:EOISSA:US:1123

I gave him exactly what i bought on newegg on 2/21/09. I even found a couple of images on bing search with the same heatsink but the buyer now wants me to shell out $25 for a heatsink he bought or refund him the total amount of the sale.

I know my old Athlon X2 for socket 939 had a bigger heatsink than this phenom 2 810 but i am not scamming him. How do I get him to believe I gave him the true retail heatsink?

email exchange so far:

buyer:
Hi, The CPU arrived as described, but the heatsink/fan is designed for 65 TPD and has a smaller contact surface, thus not compatible with 810's 95W TPD. Was it mixed up with another CPU package?I'd like to leave a perfect feedback rating, but not until this issue is satisfactorily addressed.Returning it for a full refund would also be an option on my part. Thanks!

my first reply:
There is no mix up that is the retail heatsink and fan that it came with and I used when i bought it at Newegg on 2/21/2009. I did a search the internet and people are complaining it does not have copper pipes, is that why you think it is incorrect? It appears AMD did not put copper pipes on the non Black Edition processors like this one. Further if you do an image search for HDX810WFGIBOX, which is the model number i sold you, you will see the same heatsink and fan as you received.

buyers second email:
Although would be nice, I don't really care about copper pipes. The main problem is that this heatsink doesn't have a contact area large enough to cover the entire CPU die, therefore useless for the 810. It's clearly a heatsink designed for Brisbane-class CPUs which have a rating of 65W TDP and under, not for Deneb-class 810 which is rated at 95W TDP. Another sign that this is the wrong heatsink is that you put in extra shipping paper around the heatsink box because it doesn't fit the original outer box snuggly as it should.Because I now have to acquire a heatsink separately (on top of the bid price), it’s only fair that either you send me a 810-compatible heatsink or $25 refund. I would also be happy to return the entire package for a full refund of $72.99 plus shipping.

my second reply:
The heatsink does not fit the box because i used the box from my upgraded CPU a Phenom 2 955 Black Edition which is definitely a bigger heatsink. What about the fact that searching on yahoo images or bing images of the same heatsink, see http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=HDX810WFGIBOX&fr=my-myy&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8, or a post like this one http://forums.amd.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=319&threadid=113312 with the same issue you describe: the heatsink being to small. Further I would disagree that it is too small as I used it without issue on that CPU Since i purchased it over 2.5 years ago. I have sent you an 810 compatible heatsink, that is heatsink newegg gave me when i bought this retail CPU from them. I also gave you a 7 day return window but that expired on Nov 22nd therefore i will not provide you will a refund.I am not trying to scam you. I sent you the retail CPU & heatsink that i purchased and used for over 2.5 years and it is the right heatsink otherwise i would have overheated the CPU which did not happen.

1. brace yourself for neutral, and possibly neg feedback. This guy is NOT going to admit to any sort of mistake, I doubt you'll be able to convince him he has the correct cooler.

2. use imgur uploader to add more pictures to your listing in the future.

3. if you cannot satisfy him with your second reply, offer to buy him a CPU cooler for him and have it sent to him. Make sure he gets pictures of it and is fully satisfied. When you find one, have the sender send it via some confirmed method and add the tracking number to the item on ebay. If you need help with this I will show you how to do it.

4. Try to make more detailed listings in the future. It will scare off buyers like this.

5. Next time, use BIN to save money. The listing is 50 cents but you can leave it up forever. A little research will allow you to command a higher price. You can also have your listing up indefinitely. BIN for electronics is 7% for the first 50$ and 5% after that. Auctions are all 9% for any reasonable amount. You can also require immediate payment with BIN.

6. I don't know you and I don't know very much about the item. Consider that you may, indeed, have sent him the wrong cooler. ???? although I don't think you did... it looks like the right one to me.

edit: heh, the funny thing is that the heatspreader of a brisbane CPU and the 810 are the same size... So, I know this guy is throwing out nonsense. 25$ refund to get a stock cooler? Sounds a bit... not right. Like I said, get him a cooler that the both of you agree on if you don't want a neg. You'll probably also get a low DSR for item as described, and maybe for the others because that's how some buyers work.

He doesnt know what he's talking about.

"heatsink doesn't have a contact area large enough to cover the entire CPU die"

It is not a die, it is a IHS, and its surface does not need to be completely 100% in contact with the HSF.

Yes I should have taken the picture with the heatsink outside the box, but i was rushing this time. There goes my perfect 100% rating but i will survive.

As far as I know that is indeed what AMD ships with 95W SKUs. Shame he's taking the same "really?" response I had and blaming you as the seller. Even the Phenom II 560BE I bought came with the same dinky cooler.

Here is his third response:

Well, I had to wait for the aftermarket heatsink I had ordered to arrive before using the CPU hence missing your "7 day return window". In any case, I ended up with a heatsink I have no use.

I never told him to buy another heatsink. He should have contacted me before spending more money. At least he is not asking for a refund anymore. Hopefully this means he has relented. Who does that? buys something on eBay and if it is not what they ordered (as he incorrectly claims) then goes and buys the correct thing and asks the seller to refund the money. What if I had accidently given him the wrong heatsink he would still be out the money as I would only send him the correct heatsink.

To my knowledge only 125W processors come with that larger copper heat pipe cooler, everything else the dinky little one. Guys a fool any way, guess my hyper 212+ is incompatible because it doesn't completely cover my CPU either lol

$25 for a new heatsink? Better than stock can be had for $20 or less, and I'm talking better than the stock copper heatpipe model.

after doing some research, the all aluminium heatsink is for 95w and lower, not 65w and lower like the ebay buyer states. the 810 is 95w and would come with the all aluminium one. the heatpipe heatsink is for 125w and 140w processors.

This is why I hate how ebay has changed feedback. All the power is with the buyer. You can't even leave him negative feedback, yet he clearly deserves it.

i was amazed at how rinky dink the heatsink that came with my 95w processor was. it covered the IHS though.

I think he was just trying to screw you for either $25 or a better heatsink. He talks about brisbane class CPU's, TDP's etc if he was a complete moron he wouldn't be mentioning any of that, he knows hes wrong but he is a POS so he wants to see if he can get any more from you. Also he seems to have given up now he knows you know your stuff and he is unlikely to get anywhere, if he was convinced of being right he would not have given up so easily and it would be paypal dispute time.

*end of ebay psychology with max*

agreed, he would not have given up as easily. No feedback has been left and that is fine with me.
