Stock fans on the 7600GTs - better or worse than the 7900GTs?

I've got an XFX 7900GT, and the stock fan was sooo loud that I had to ditch it for a Zalman VF700. Nowadays, I don't game much anymore, so I was thinking about downgrading to a 7600GT and getting some of my cash back.

The only thing that would concern me is if the stock cooler is as bad as the ones on the 7900GTs. Can anyone here help me with their own personal experiences or some reviews that might go into great detail on this subject?

TIA and have a good one!

Sell the 7900gt with the stock fan and keep the zalman. The stock reference cooler my 7600GT xxx came with was unacceptably loud in 3D mode. I have the 700cu on it now.

or maybe sell both (card and cooler) and get a gigabyte 7600gt fanless ("silent heatpipe")

Or just give the 7900gt to me...thats it.

Then you'll have nothing...which is the quietest you can get.

The stock cooler on my XFX 7600GT was very loud under any real load which is why I dumped it for a Zalman VF700-Cu and I couldn't be happier.

I agree with DAPUNISHER, sell the 7900GT with the stock cooler reattached and put the VF700 on a 7600GT.

All right, thanks guys. So Gigabyte makes a silent cooler model eh? How are Gigabyte cards overall?

I've got an eVGA 7600GT CO, and it uses the same fan/cooler that most of the other cards use. It's loud in 3D, but the rest of my computer is also fairly loud as well, so I'm used to it. In 2D, it's pretty quiet. If you're concerned about noise, you'll probably find it annoying.

Both 7900GT and 7600GT use that small, loud, copper HSF. Also, to the OP, why couldn't you just use the VF700 on the 7600GT as well?

You could look for the leadtek 7600GT that uses a different cooler.

Does anyone here know if the NV6 silencer rev2 fit on the 7600GT/GS? since the 7600 uses 6600 series PCB..

Yes, it fits.
That is certainly interesting to know.

Yes I could. But I am also considering scaling back to a SFF or a tiny uATX form factor in the near future and a card with a one slot cooler has a much better chance of fitting than one with a zalman cooler on it.

Ok, well that makes some interesting options to cool the 7600GT/GS. NV6 silencer/Zalman Vf700/900 etc.

I would suggest the NV6 silencer since it blows hot air out of the case while doing so at a low dbs compared to the zalman.

edit - I heard the new 80nm 7600 series are coming along with new audio capabilities. There are rumours of 7600GTX or something along those lines due to the G73 core having 4 quads instead of the 3 we were led to believe.

IF your not into gaming, maybe even a 7600GS might be what you are looking for.

I thought the 7600 GT and the 7900 GT used the same cooler... Keep in mind the 7900 GTX uses a *much* quieter cooling solution.
also, check out the reviews on the 3rd party cooler called the "KuFormula VF1"

How can anybody think the Zalman is loud? The thing is whisper-quiet even on the 12v setting. There's no way the Silencer can be quieter enough to make any difference.

And as I found out when I was researching what aftermarket cooler to put on my 7600GT, the fact that the Silencer pushes air out of the case makes no real difference in temps.

That sounds interesting, too. Got any links?
