Stock Core2 duo fan to replace stock Core2 Quad?

One of the fan blades broke off my stock cooler on my C2Q. All I have laying around to fit is a stock C2D heatsink and fan. Its about 1/2 the thickness in metal.

I installed it, but I'm overheating. Is that stock cooler not enough for a C2Q?

No, the C2Qs came with beefier coolers that did a better job cooling the CPUs. Because the C2Qs generated more heat.

The C2D cooler will get you booting and working long enough to get on newegg and order a new cooler, but it's not something you should rely on.

I don't see why you can't take the fan from the C2D cooler and put it on the C2Q heatsink, unless the fans themselves have a different spec, or fit differently. the C2Q stock cooler has a copper core, or would be beefier. I'm just guessing that the fans would be similar or same.

My first thought: Swap the fans. All the Core2 era Intel HSFs at the same diameter, just different thickness and material.

couldn't switch fans as the height of the C2D was shorter than the C2Q
That being said, upon further notice, I saw that one of the corners of the HS was not twisted into the "locked" position. Cinched that down and it's staying cool.
Been running for a few days without issues and under heavy loads. Probably helps it's in a cool basement. Noticed HDD temps dropped 3*C once I moved it down there
