Stock 2.4c vs. 3.0e temps

Yes, I've read the myriad of threads regarding the prescott temps, but flat out, at stock clock speed, approximately how much of a temp increase might I expect going from a 2.4c -> 3.0e?

Just curious if someone's done the same upgrade, and how the results were. :)

Interesting power consumption comparison:

2.4c - 66.2 Watts
3.0e - 89 Watts

Why not just run your 2.4c at 3 ghz? I have yet to see a 2.4C that did not run 3ghz easy.

Well that begets another question then, which is hotter, a 2.4c @ 3.0 or a 3.0 prescott? For me it's all about the temps and stability...

Crank that 2.4C up to 3 ghz. It'll probably do it on stock voltage...and without a doubt run cooler than the prescott.

Well, not at stock voltage, but what the hell.

Running now at 3.0, 1.6V on an IC7G. Idle temp 2c over previous @ 56c.

Now engaging benchmarks, my bet it will die.

Well it's not dead yet, but with prime95 running in "cook mode" I've got a reading of 73c. This is an ic7-g, mind you, so I have no idea what the temp really is.

Kinda hot. :)

I'm running my 2.4C @ 3.14 default vcore of 1.525 with idle temps 38C and 53C after about an hours worth of prime. Using a IS7@262mhz, slk948u w/ panaflo h and arctic silver ceramique.

A post so horrific it made a newB decloak. :p

My system is dead quiet, which was my goal. I can run it stock @ 2.4 and 100% utilization without issue. The fan is programmed to bump @65c and it controls it well.

My only fear is the extra heat kills my temp control scheme, which it just might do.

My stealth pimp rig.

Trying to make 3ghz work, though.

the prescott is sucky on aircooling if you want to overclock past 3.2ghz
some get lucky tho and get 3.4, 3.6 and sometimes higher

i just couldn't stand the 70c temps so i had to go to water cooling for my prescot

good luck

btw my 2.8e replaced a 1.8 P4m without HT which oc'd to about 2.65-2.8ghz range

Lol hahaha that's much hotter than a 3.0e. No contest. ;)

You aren't going to able able to passively cool a 3 ghz P4, unless you're willing to live with very high temps. But, there's no way in hell you're going to be able to passively cool ANY Prescott, unless you're willing to live with 2.4A, which has the performance of a ~2.0 P4C.
