Anyone have any links with the differences? Pros and cons of each?

I'm wanting to put an LCD + Xbox in my car so I can play games, dvds, divx, etc.

I know TFT is a more common monitor type as I just heard about STN today. The STN monitors are quite a bit cheaper then TFT monitors so I'm assuming they're not as good.

Would they work for playing DVDs on? Are the colors halfway decent?

Here's a STN monitor

Here's a TFT monitor

STN isn't as bright and has nowhere near as good a viewing angle

DO NOT i repeat DO NOT use STN monitor to play games! STN is another name for Passive Matrix or Dual Scan monitors, used to be prevelant in low-end laptops, limited to 800x600 resolution, very poor viewing angle. Basically, you have to look right at it in order to see anything. In addition to that, they aer nearly impossible to see in daylight i.e. outside. They are not designed for moving images i.e. movies, games. You WILL get a huge headache trying to play with one of these and your picture will become badly "ghosted". Save your money and buy TFT.

i think stn means...

scan twist neumatic. from what i remember.

usually the term was dstn. they dont really make this type of monitor anymore. the thing was, each row of pixels was controlled by one transistor. in a tft each pixel was controlled by one transistor . (actually 3 one for each color, i guess on a grayscale its 1)

anyways, pixels cant refresh as fast until the scan goes down past that row again. dual scans, had 2 sections so scanning was twice as fast (kinda like gluing 2 single scan screens together i guess)

All the STN screen's I've seen also have a lot of streaking. (At least I think that's what it's called.)
