Stinky rounded cables

I'm not talking quality here, I'm really talking SMELL. I bought a batch of rounded cables and man do they smell. The rubber covering has a severely strong odor, almost skunk-like. They are made by Vantec if you're wondering. I once bought a Wingman joystick that had the same smell from the rubber boot. In a room with poor ventilation, this is bad, very bad.

Have you had this problem too? If so, what can I do to the cables to clear up the odor?

Help!

Rubber can have an odor, but I'll bet the shrink tubing and the boot is actually petroleum based. Some of the cheaper shrink tubing STINKS! I use the stuff alot at work and every now and then we get some cheap stinky stuff. All you can do is live with it or toss it. Sorry, man.

Hang a couple of those Christmas tree air fresheners in front and back of the case, so the fans blow the smell in and out. Doubt it'd work, but you never know 😀

This is my motorbike-mind talking, but maybe you could seal the plastic & rubber with some kind of spray-on wax like used on motorbike chains.
