There is a guy that joined the gym this week and he has been in the cardio room last couple days. The dude smells like BO so bad my eyes start watering. This guy is the smellest bastard ive ever smelt and he's screwing up my cardio. I can't stand to stay in the same room with him without throwing up. I've complained to the owner and he said he would ask the dude to wear deodorant. What else can I do?

Go at a different time? Put some cologne under the tip of your nose? Work out when his is in there, then give it 5 minutes after to let the air clear?

That is just wrong. I've been around people like that before and I've visibly gagged in front of them. Luckily, I haven't worked out around them or anything, my God.

I would just politely ask the person if they could do something about their smell. One of 2 outcomes.

1. The person complies and ensures they try to keep their BO down.

2. The person is offended and never comes back again.

Win.

I'm sure your gym has some hygiene requirement listed in their membership rulebook. As a paying member, you are entitled to workout in a clean environment. Are you working out at a chain franchise? Threaten to escalate the issue up the chain of command to his superiors if he can't handle it.

Another option? Anonymous note plus gift (deodorant) left hanging on his locker.

id be like "aw, dude, you fuckin reek" and then he would be like "what the fuck you gonna do bitch?" and shoot me

It's privately owned and I talked to the owner. I'm going to talk to him about it again if it becomes an issue next week.

lol... this reminds of when these 2 indian guys were working out in my neighborhood 1-room TINY gym about 8 years ago.

The mixture of curry and intense BO was not enjoyable. Not enjoyable at all. 😵

There is this old mexican lady that comes to my gym that puts on about 10 sprays of cheap drug store perfume. It's so bad that I taste her perfume from 5 machines away.

Yeah, it can get to be irritating, especially when these same people are the ones leaving pools of odious sweat on the equipment they use while showing no intentions of wiping up after themselves.

I can understand the fact that it's a gym, and thus isn't going to smell like roses. But come on, at least practice some basic self-hygiene, and also keep your clothes washed. It has to take some kind of effort to be able to have people smell you from 15-20 ft. away.
