Still possible to buy Windows 7 Pro full version retail anywhere?

I read that MS discontinued retail sales and support of Windows 7 last fall, but are there any stores still selling any remaining stock? I searched on google and all I'm finding are OEM copies.

An OEM copy will work if that's all that is available, but it would be nice to have the freedom to move the install to a new PC and/or motherboard in the future without worrying about whether the MS CSR will let me reactivate it.

Buying used is... iffy. I'd be worried about whether it's genuine.

But, um, have you considered embracing 8.1? Metro has been toned down substantially in Update 1, and you can get the Start Menu with StartIsBack or wait a little while longer for the upcoming Threshold release to officially bring back the Start Menu...

If the appearance of the install dVD doesn't vary between OEM and retail, the seller could provide the receipt (if he/she still has it), the box, the Product-Key sticker. Someone would have to go to a lot of trouble either counterfeiting the disc or attempting to make an OEM disc and license look like a retail version. I just don't think there's sufficient incentive for someone attempting to try such a stunt.

At this point I might as well just hold off and wait for Threshold, which is supposed to be out by next April. Hopefully it will be a suitable upgrade from Windows 7. MS seems to be in the habit of alternating between good and bad OS releases.

Well, I know it's off-topic, but Windows 8 is actually quite a bit faster. I started on 8.1 so I didn't ever experience how bad 8.0 really was, but 8.1 on a non-touch laptop seems fine once you get used to the start screen... and since my mode of operation is 'press windows key and type want i want' it really makes no difference.

And holy crap is shutdown/boot ever faster. And EFI support, so nice. And DPI scaling is actually useful so we can FINALLY have high resolution displays like I've always wanted (why wasn't this in... like, Vista?). And the new file explorer is great. Power users lost in the new control panel mess? Right click in the bottom-left corner of the screen or press win-x. Just don't shut down from there, it disables kernel hibernation (that nice fast startup after shutdown). The new task manager is excellent, although if you used Process Explorer it's nothing super new. It also understands SSDs, and will TRIM them automatically in the old "defrag" program (now called optimizer or something like that). Storage pools are wonderful. And blah blah, other new features. Anyway...
