Here's the deal..... I have a brand new KR7A-Raid mobo, a brand new water cooled Athlon XP 1800 processor, a brand new stick of 512 megs of Crucial RAM (the ram isn't the problem) and a watercooled Radeon 8500.... Ever since I installed the water cooling system, the new mobo and the new processor, the computer doesn't NOT want to post.... I have tried almost everything, but this has been going on for over 2 weeks now and I can't stand it anymore... if you could PLEASE list Anything and everything that I could be doing wrong, or that could be wrong with the system. Thanks so much
 
Do you have a fan plugged into the cpu fan header? This is necessary or it won't boot.

I assume your core is ok (didn't crack it with the waterblock).

Do the fans turn at all? How did you mount your waterblock on your video card? Thermal adheasive? Maybe on the memory? If you used regular Arctic Silver Thermal Epoxy and got some on the memory lans of your vid card, it won't post.

Just trying to run through some of the stuff you might not of thought of.

Did you maybe leave and extra header behind the mobo when you mounted it which may be shorting the mobo out?

BTW the cpu fan header is the one thats closest to the memory, not the one closest to the socket (go figure).
 
all good ideas.... I'll try that out now... but the cpu is fine, and no, there is no fan plugged in, and the arctic silver and ram is fine. Thanks a lot
 
If plugging a fan in that header doesn't fix the problem, I hope you have another video card to throw in and see if the Radeon's pins are being bridged (was it specifically Arctic Silver thermal epoxy - this stuff is so capacitive that it might as well be conductive. It needs to be used with extreme care around pins.) If you did bridge the pins, it doesn't mean the card is dead. You might be able to carefully cut the epoxy so its not connecting the pins.
 
sadly, I have tried everything.... but I'm not sure about the headers.... I don't exactly know how it could be shorting out the motherboard..
 
have you ever done watercooling before? who makes this water block? are you POSITIVE it is air tight? 1 little tiny little leak...... when you started putting this system together did you make sure to ground yourself properly? also do you have the standoffs installed that came with the case? have you made sure that one isn't touching a metal part of the board?
 
I haven't done watercooling before but I did read a lot about it and had my friend help me. We ran it for about 3 hours, making sure there were no leaks. Then we installed everything correctly... made sure every nut above the clamp was turnbed the exact same amount of times. I got everything from Dangerden, a respectable company I assume... and about the motherboard, I'm still not sure how to check on that... but I'll do my best. I have 3 of the gold studs supporting the board, and the 2 spacers... that's pretty much all I know about it. Doesn't seem to want to work. The reason I think it isn't working is because the video card could have been damaged. We had to use a little "force" to make the clamp fit... and that could have hurt it.... and my friend spilt a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on it, so we gave it well over a week to dry.
 
Also, my friend cut some wires from the power supply that "we don't need" and it's true, we didn't.... so he put black electrical tape over it... could that have something to do with it?
 
I am sorry, I think I may have confused you. I have very disjointed thinking and sometimes two things come out right after each other that have nothing to do with the other.............😀

Question 1 : Have you plugged a fan that has fan sensor on it into the fan header? (Three wires)
The reason I ask is that there is an automatic shutoff feature built into bios that monitors the cpu fan and when it fails it shuts down the mobo. Without a fan plugged into that fan header, you mobo won't boot. It usually justs comes on for 1-2 secs and then powers back down. (Thats what it does on my KT7A)

Question 2 : Have you removed your mobo and made sure that there are no extra mounting risers that might be left in there by accident?

Question 3 : What type of holddown are you using? Does it use the four motherboard holes. If so, are you using plastic washers for the washers that contact the motherboard on both sides? A metal washer can slip and touch a component and effectively ground it.

I can feel you pain, I know exactly how I would be feeling in your shoes right now. So lets get this fixed..........🙂

This may be a compatibility problem with the AMD chipset. Try changing your video card from 4X to 2X mode.
