I'm unhappy with the mp440bx's I received, but am very impressed with Overstock's customer service. My first mp440bx was very unstable so I RMA'd it. They emailed me a UPS prepaid shipping label - very nice. I received a replacement a couple weeks later and that one didn't work as well. I then RMA'd that one asking for a refund. They gladly refunded my money and said I could toss or keep the motherboard.

Eventhough my experience with this particular product was bad, I would buy from them again. My wife purchased a convection toaster oven from Overstock and it is working perfectly.

Jury is out for me on overstock.

MP440BX turned out to be a dud - good thing I tried it out right away
and RMA'd it with overstock.

Make a long story short = waiting to hear from them about mobo that went
bad.

1. ordered msi 6178 8/3
2. received msi 6182e 8/14
3. emailed them about mistake ask if warranty same as ordered.
4 8/21 finally got back answer, do I want another product? elected to keep assuming same warranty as other (90 days)
5 9/20 mobo dies.
6. email overstock
7. 9/26 get reply - sorry but exceeded 30 day warranty.
8. still awaiting final reply..

moral : keep a print out of original html page listing warranty.

expect the mobo to die and don't get it unless it has at least 1 year warranty.

So far, a little disappointed in overstock. hopefully they won't give me
the short end of the stick, but we'll see.

sorry about getting off topic a bit, but the caveat emptor applies since
thats where this item is being sold!

Sorry guys for all the bad experience with this mobo :(
I know there are some good ones; as a matter of fact, I am typing on this system right now which runs the mp440bx and Celery 566@850, and this is one of the more stable boards I have (never crashed yet in the last two weeks). Hopefully, Intel took care of all the defective ones...

Just got my second MP440BX from overstock.
Celeron II 633 does 950 MHz without a hitch!
Isn't it amazing: 2-year old $30 motherboard ($39 + picture frame - $20) is capable of reaching almost 1Hz?

I bought a SOYO V6BE+ about 3 months ago to make use of an old Celeron 300A. Works fine.

Last week i saw a post about a 950Mhz Celeron using my exact same board that i bought from overstock.com. Cool i thought, might as well try it out. So I purchases an ABIT slotkey and Celeron 633. So far, haven't been able to figure it out.

Am I supposed to be able to get this new C633 with such an old board. the specs certainly disagree. how was the person able to get this done?

Why I think it doesn't work: Video card never sends out signal to monitor. (black screen)
Celeron 300A with FSB on board set to 66Mhz works
My SlotKey Settings. tried both 66Mhz and 100Mhz (neither work)
SlotKey Voltage set to 1.85V (doesn't work)

help!

The only jumpers i see on the V6BE+ is the one to set the FSB from 66 to 100. That's it! what am i missing? The person that post 950Mhz for 150 bucks shipped said he had the same setup and it worked for him. what am i doing wrong? If it doesn't do 950... fine.. but heck I can't even get it to work a 66Mhz.

I'd be leary of a refurbished motherboard. There are too many components that could have problems

Maybe I am lucky, but I got one MP440BX and three MSI 5185 mainboards from Overstock. All four are refurbished Gateway OEM boards. All three work perfectly fine. I was able to use sometimes troublesome Overstock coupons on all four boards, so my average cost was $30 per board. Shipping was free. From reading other posts, the RMA procedure at Overstock is acceptable, so IMHO these are worth a little gamble.

BTW, I tried a 533A Celeron FC with Abit Slotket in the MP440BX and it would not boot at 800. The Gateway boards have a dumbed down BIOS that makes tweaking for speed much harder.

I am glad to hear that some people have had good experience with those refurb. mobos from overstock.com. Honestly, overstock.com has been very good to me, and their customer service is better than most online stores.

pstar, you might have obtained an older revision of your mobo than the other person, or maybe your bios needs to be updated ,(if your bios is before 10/99 there is no chance your system will boot with a coppermine chip; most bios that will run with celeron II's are around 4/00). Finally, make sure your slocket is compatible with coppermine chips; being able to use a celeron 300A on this slocket certainly does not guarantee that you'll be able to use a celeron II on it. You need to be able to manually set the FSB to 66/100 (try 66 first), and you need to make sure that this slocket will not automatically supply 2.0V when running at 66 (for older celerons). Good luck! Remember, don't bother to overclock your chip if you can't even run it at default speed!

a lot of older bx boards will not like .05 multiple voltage settings on the slotket, try 1.80 or 1.90 volt, (for msi 6905) overclock mode, force 100, coppermine 256k, and voltage as necessary.

i have a p2b that won't do squat at 1.85 but will boot at 1.8 or 1.9

pstar:

I have been going nuts trying to get some info on the Soyo board. Soyo's website says it don't support a multiplier over 5. That might explain your situation. On the other hand, if you go here - www.specialtytech.com/PIIIEPCB.html it appears that some 6VBE's with the right bios will work with a coppermine. If you have not tried flashing the latest bios, you should try that.

BTW does anybody have a phone number for overstock.com customer service?

Thanks

Just as an fyi, the soyo board works fine with a celly and a slocket. Just flash the latest bios, set the jumper on the board to 100 mhz, and let it rip. If you only set the slocket bus speed to 100 it won't work. Furthermore, set the bus speed in the bios to 100 also. When it boots up it will say that the speed is 912, and on mine it said the multiplier was fixed at 5.5(this makes no sense) but Sisoft Sandra stated that the cpu speed was 953(9.5 x 100), which is correct. It ran great in the latest system I built. I did have to bump up the voltage to 1.85 on the slocket, but it ran cool(around 40c) and was very stable...... I already sold the system I built with this board, but I remember seeing in the bios that the highest multiplier on this board is actually 8......

pstar, is your video card AGP? If not, if you can disable AGP in your BIOS, I found this fixed the same problem on my Soyo-VBA133 when I upgraded the proc to Celeron 600MHz.

If your video card is AGP, set your AGP aperture on the BIOS to a low value, like 4MB. I heard some people were able to get around the problem of no video this way.

I have the MP440BX from Overstock.COM since August and is very stable. I have the Celeron 355@550 on it, and a Banshee AGP video card. It is the most stable of the 3 setups I have at home. I thought the board itself felt sturdier than my other mainboards -- it doesn't bend easily.

Only thing is I couldn't figure out the front panel connectors. I still don't have my HD and Power LEDs and the reset button working. Anybody with info on this?

I have this Intel board running a 566@850 no problems. It ran the UT timedemo for 4 days straight in 640x480 software mode so I'm sure it will be fine. If anyone is in need of a Slocket that supports Flipchips Outpost.com has the MSI adapter for $11 delivered. I also have the TYAN 1833 dual P3 board working fine. Definetly worth the money for me.:D

Thanks DieselMan! I got my LEDs and Reset to work. Turned out I had all my polarities reversed. The power switch worked either way, though.
