Still having problems: 6800 Ultra with VF700 cooler is freezing in games

Even with my case open and a large outside fan blowing cool air in, my card froze after about 6 minutes of Need for Speed Underground 2.

I wonder what is so special about this particular game. Is there a demo?
If you know there is a demo, post a link and I will run it and report back if mine freezes or not.

Does it always freeze at the same spot in the game?

I had a similar problem with Thief deadly shadows. It rebooted always at the same spot in the game.
I switched drivers to the ones before the latest and problem solved!

It's not just NFSU, other games do it also. It's just that NFSU freezes faster than almost anything else.

BTW, I am now running just my mobo, cpu, 1 hard drive, video card, and sound card off of my psu. I really don't think this is a power issue, as I am continuing to have the same troubles.

biostud brings up a good point.

Underclock the core only and leave the memory clock at default. Run Need for Speed and see if it still crashes.
Then, underclock the memory and set the core to default and try again.

have you gotten your new power supply unit yet?
it is very odd that your card is freezing up with the cooler heat sink/fan and not with the stock... since the fan on the VF700 cooler probably draws more power than the stock fan, i'd guess it is your psu. it is weak but could it also be possible that it fluctuates too much?
also, how are the temps on your cpu or chipset with and without the VF700?
perhaps the cooler is pushing the heat to those areas causing your computer to freeze up. try underclocking your cpu to rule that out.
