Walking around a subway with a helmet and mp5, I bet those cops feel like total asses. It would be like patrolling a city street with a tank.
Rudy Guillani is really positioning to get the Attorney General position in a McCain administration
I hope you are fvcking kidding about that. It's not funny.
They've been doing this in the UK for decades because of the IRA. It's nothing as shocking some of you people are giving it credit for.
Have you seen where the UK is going these days? Somebody keeps hitting flush over and over, it's headed straight down the sh*ter.

There is a Starbucks on every block in Manhattan. Clearly the NY police are on to this invasion of columbian loyalists and are simply using the guise of anti-terror to lull the caffeine addicts into complacency. Relax. Oh noes, cops with guns! Wait...

This police state crap surfaces every time we have isolated incidents of stupid police policies. The NYPD policy is stupid. It won't do anything, I think we can all agree on that, but until our police start arresting non-"party" members, stop allowing dissenting opinions to be distributed, and begin to enter homes without warrants, I'm not too concerned.

these stupid mothaf***as don't have anything better to do with my NY SI tax, NYC I Tax, NY SUI/SDI Tax ???!!!

time to move to Wyoming

The terrorists also have used phones to coordinate so we should let the government record and listen to all phone calls....aww crap they already did that one!

Seriously is there anything the government could do which would make you worried? Do you really just trust everything the government does?

When the government sends a demand backed by law and force to this forum requiring the removal of your post and others expressing disatisfaction with the administration I'll take notice. Until then, I'll be happy to let the police and bomb dogs on the subways. I don't think they're there to repress rebellion.

As if you have a choice. What are you going to do about it, peasant?

Police on subways isn't worth beginning La Revolution over. In fact, it's barely newsworthy at all beyond the point the policy is stupid.

And if the police started checking public transit where you live, you'd break out the camo, flak jacket and night vision eh?

Hell, I'd think about it myself if they showed up with assault gear, and first I'd have to get my candy-assed liberal self down to the revolution store and buy all that shit.

BTW Nebor, are you really allowed to carry in the UK, as a visitor? I find that surprising.

This is bad.

Police, god bless them for their hard work, do *not* protect us from terrorism. They just help clean up the mess afterward.

The only 'pro-active' security measures that work are trained intelligence personnel from authorized agencies, appropriate surveillance procedures, and target group infiltration. Anything else is at best, expensive and counterproductive, and at worst, authoritarian and abusive towards law-abiding citizens.

To re-state the patently obvious : no amount of cops in armor with heavy weaponry will deter a dedicated suicide attacker or jihadist. Quite the opposite, it provides the perfect double-hit potential : (1)- Blow something up, (2)- Have a bomb waiting for the first wave of responders, which in this case would be a large number of police.

This is bad for the police officers, bad for the NY budget, bad for resource management, bad for basically anything but deterring petty theft, vandalism, and various crimes that are actually deterred by a police presence.

I wont be happy until a battalion of crack infantry is dropped in my backyard with tanks to protect my home. Just hope they dont turn those guns on me.

And the red staters are the ones that got the ball rolling. who do ya think did more to impliment a police state, and it wasn't Clinton.

Heh this is a silly statement. I love how it is a Blue state implementing this yet it is somehow the red states fault. Typicaly liberal.

Perhaps you forgot Clinton was in office when the ATF lead a full charge military style attack on US civilians in a show of force meant to get the other fringes of society in line and lockstepping to the govts tune.

True. Both are bad, negative, stupid responses/actions. God we've had some terrible AGs, Janet Reno, Asscroft, and Gonzales.

I think that your blanket statement of 'Typically Liberal' shows an unreasonable bias. Let's be honest, there are morons galore on both sides of the political spectrum. Let's call a spade a spade in this case.

There are morons on both side of the aisle, cant disagree with you. There are examples of it within this thread.

Come on SJ, that's not necessary and only makes you look like someone ready to throw low blows to match an already lowering class of posts in this thread. Let's get this back to substantive debate. I for one know you're better than this.

Carrying automatic weapons and full body armor on routine patrols doesn't help find bombs or bombers. It just makes you stick out like a sore thumb.

It's called a deterrent you jackass.

How exactly does a police officer in full tactical gear including automatic weapons patrolling the subway "deter" someone willing to blow themselves up?

It is all a person like sirjonk has left with his limited intellect. I prefer letting people like him respond with childish posts like that. It allows us to confirm, rather than speculate their mental capacity.

Gasoline, meet fire!

Ok, back to this. What is your stance on the issue in this thread, with pro/con from your perspective?

Whereas calling people morons for deigning to express an opinion other than yours is the height of civility and maturity. Yes, it was a cheap shot on my part, but the point was clear. Thinking the government isn't about to start a concentration camp in NYC just because cops with slightly bigger guns and dogs are trying to stop terrorists (even if you disagree with their tactics) doesn't make someone an idiot or naive. I apologize for responding to his bait.

Inferno indeed 😀

Anyways my original post made it pretty clear in a sarcastic way I am against such a waste of police resources.

I wont be happy until a battalion of crack infantry is dropped in my backyard with tanks to protect my home. Just hope they dont turn those guns on me.
