Stickykeys? WTH?

ok, so i'm typing an email, and my "Shift" key was sticking, so i was busy hitting it trying to unstick it and a window popped up with some "Sticky Keys" dialogue box. it says:

Pressing the SHIFT key 5 times turns on StickyKeys. StickyKeys lets you use the SHIFT, CTRL, ALT, or Windows Logo keys by pressing one key at a time.
To keept StickyKeys on, click OK.
To cancel StickyKeys, click Cancel
to deactivate the key combination for StickyKeys, click Settings.


What the heck is StickyKeys? I've never heard of this before (and it quite surprised me when it popped up)

This annoys me even if I turn them off, is there a way to completely disable teh damn things. If my keys are sticking Ill figure it out dammit

Lets someone like me, who cant hold down say shift and enter at the same time, press shift once then enter for the same effect. When it's on, one press locks it until another key is pressed, two locks it until you hit it again to unlock it.

is it designed to be for people w/ some sort of disability? I'd never seent this before. MS is installing things w/o my knowledge again. :disgust:

You mean like in the same way they installed notepad without your knowledge?

It's a part of windows, just click on the control panel->accessability options and disable it.

Hardly.

It's part of the Accessibility options that you installed when you installed the OS.

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall the Accessibility options if you'd like.

People with physical disabilities appreciate features such as StickyKeys that allow them to type.

well it popped up the dialog and i keep hitting shift and it hasn't come back. maybe if i restart it will.

start(button) > settings > control panel > accessibility options.
keyboard tab
look for stickykeys panel
on panel click settings
uncheck "use shortcut"

voila

I tried this when it was messing with my games. It did not work.

I know this one works in XP, 2000 too I think, but did anyone ever push the window button and U? It brings up the utilities menu, and you can have it talk to you and tell you what window you're in and stuff like that. Sorta fun, and you can play with the pitch and speed of the dude's voice.
