I have a pretty high end (expensive and full featured) programmable universal remote, the Home Theater Master MX-700 and the advance button ( >> ) has gotten sticky. It still works, it just feels funny (pops up a bit slow). Granted, it's probably the single button I have used the most! I figure the contact has gotten gunked up, but maybe it's worn out in some way. I've had marginal success in the past dealing with button problems with remotes and before I spray or apply any kind of liquid to this I want to research the topic so I don't make matters worse. My TV's remote, for instance, has gotten to the point where a few buttons are all but useless or completely dead. Whatever solutions I sprayed or dabbed on them failed to revive the keys Thanks for advice, insights, recommendations, etc.

solution: start watching porn at your computer instead.

I guess it depends on what type of mechanism they use with regards to cleaning. Google your remote.

Can't you open it up and clean them individually. I'm not at all familiar with that universal remote, btw.

Depending on the mechanism some of the plastic springs are a PITA to get back in.

Yeah, I opened one device and lost one of the parts to a button, so now that button is inoperative. That approach can be tricky.

In this case I have workarounds. It's the 9 key on a count-down timer. If I want 9 minutes I can key in 8 minutes and 60 seconds, no biggie. Still I wished I could have found that little red thingie. It just jumped and hid somewhere.

I would get a big tupperware container and a large bottle of alcohol. Swish the remote vigorously in the alcohol while pressing the button repeatedly. Should clean it right up, the alcohol is non-conductive and will evaporate quickly.
