I have never driven manual..

can i learn it over the weekend? Any good sites to read?

Thanks

provide me with a stick car and i'll teach you at no cost. You will need an instructor - this is not a video game, don't try this on your own.

Ride the clutch like hell when you're first learning, you'll stall less often. Just don't try to stop facing uphill.

1) Depress Clutch
2) With foot on clutch and brake, place into 1st gear
3) Rev engine to approx. 3000 RPM
4) Slowly slide clutch foot off side of clutch pedal allowing it to "POP" up
5) Enjoy 😉

if you have a manual car, know someone who can drive one and a couple hours, yes.

He could learn it, but it'll be obvious that he just learned it. Getting smooth at a manual tranny takes a lot of time.

OP, what are they going to have you driving?

Try driving stick around some parts of San Francisco. Driving stick around flat land doesn't mean you know how to drive stick.

Its not impossible to learn on your own. I taught myself stick.... I just borrowed my brother's car for a few afternoons before buying my own.

Agreed. I also taught myself. It really helps if you know how a manual tranny works, then you know why you have to do the things you do.

This is why the UK is good.
If you learn to drive and pass your test in an auto, you can only drive auto, you have to do a second test (or do your first test in a manual) to be able to drive manual legally.

That is some of the silliest sh!t I ever heard.

You're gonna look like a total newb... Sorry to say, but this is one of those things you can't learn from reading something on the internet. People seemed to think driving a manual is like a video game, but it's a bit more complicated than that. The concept is real simple, but mastering it will take more than just a weekend.

Why? Because people who haven't ever driven stick should be allowed to do whatever they please and end up causing an accident because they don't know how to drive for ******? 😛

I played a video game (arcade) that was quite realistic, you could stall the car if clutch/gas was improperly used.....gave me that basics before I taught myself.

no clue...

the description says

Drivers must have excellent customer contact and driving skills, including the ability to operate a vehicle equipped with a standard (manual) transmission.

no.

you can't learn how to fly by reading, right? so browsing 'how-to-do' websites won't help at all.

find a beater car and learn by experience.

QFT, you cannot learn to drive a stick by reading about it. That would be like trying to learn to ride a bicycle by reading about it. Not gonna happen.

I believe mastering stick is like an art form. Well in racing that is.

What is the nature of the job? Where is it? Car dealership?

People are being oddly secretive about details tonight.

probably, but not well. i learned how to drive my brother's s2000 in a weekend, but it was far from being smooth. and nervous too. then again, the s2k is a lot harder to drive than my friend's m3. i heard my friends say it took them months to begin driving smoothly and naturally with MT.

Fixed.

screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech.

First time I ever drove a stick shift (age 14) I didn't stall it. I launched that audi quattro like a bat outta hell. Of course then the RPMs were banging the ceiling and I didn't know what to do next.

🙂

good times, good times.

If they say "excellent" driving skills, one weekend on stick isn't gonna fly.

Yep, it doesn't take that long to learn. To master it, however...

QFT. When I bought my first stick, my saleman took me out & showed me what to do in 40 minutes. I'd say it took a month before it was second nature though. Good luck!!!

Will it be obvious you learned the weekend before? You better believe it.
You sound like Naruto.
