I doubt it. Nicks was in a Group that will probably go down as one of the greatest where as Madonna..well she'll go down on anything.

Fleetwood Mac?

Yuk

Foreigner > Fleetwood Mac
Led Zeppelin > Fleetwood Mac
Bee Gees > Fleetwood Mac
Beatles > Fleetwood Mac
Earth, wind & Fire > Fleetwood Mac

and that's just the 70's
Hmm are you familiar with Fleetwood Mac pre Stevie Nicks? They were putting out hits since the 60's. Now I can understand that you may not like their style but their success speaks volumes. Of course the Bands you mentioned are also legendary

How are you defining Success?? according to a LOT of people Madonna has been pretty successful, especially if you use Dollars sold as a gage of success.
Yes she is/was very successful

ok, i must have missed something in the thread.

anyway, i'm not by any means a big fan of madonna, i said the same things about her, many people here are saying about Britney and Christina, when she first came on the pop scene in the early 80's. since then i've grudgingly acknowledged that by most standards she has attained a level of success.

She's not ugly by a long shot.

You realize the audience you are talking to right? A bunch of virginal pubsecent boys who would claim to kick gorgeous supermodels from their beds but will end up losing that virginity to a drunk fat chick at a party in a closet.

Brodie: That was the biggest load of crap I've ever heard! I mean, look at you! You're the kind of guy who would beg for sex! And I should know, we can smell our own.

all you guys slamming stevie nicks should be shot. she has (had) one of the best female voices in rock music and some of the best lyrics and luckily she ended up playing with one of the best bands in that era. she looked good in the 70's and still looks good today... go watch the fleetwood mac 'the dance' dvd from their reunion tour in 1997. and she had much more vocal range back in the day.

tusk is one of my favourite albums :)

:)

saw the pun.

you have to admit tho, i'm sure you didn't think she would do as well as she did the first time you heard her. i say give credit where it's due, she adapted and changed and managed to stay current, as compared to say Cyndi Lauper. :)

You think? I saw her back in the day and her voice sounded like that of a goat. Of course her voice might have been strained from touring. However goat voice and all, you are correct about the lyrics and the way she used her goat voice with them was pure genius You don't have to have a great voice to be a successful Rock N Roll Singer, just take Steven Tyler for instance.

Yeah that too as that whole group was in a drugged out stupor for half of the 80's.

BTW, When I was in High School I saw Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nick's original group at a School Dance in the Bay Area. The were called the Fritz Rayban memorial Group (or something like that) They were really something back then (they were just out of High School or in High School themselves)

Stevie Nicks complains about Madonna, but didn't she bang practically her whole band and have a cocaine and tranquilizer addiction? She's one to talk

they released a record in the early 70's as 'buckingham nicks'... it's out of print but there are some copies floating around, apparently the hardcore fans are pushing for the re-release.

She does have a point. Madonna is old enough to be Britney's mom.

Imagine if we lived in a bizarro world and the MTV awards showed Mick Jagger kissing Justine Timberlake. Would that be hot?

Damn straight. I'm more into hard rock and my parents love Fleetwood Mac. I have to admit, they are an excellent band and very original unlike others.

I understand where all of you are coming from when you say that it doesn't matter what Stevie Nicks says about Madonna, Britney, or Christina. You're right in that it doesn't matter......it was simply an opinion. What I disagree with is just how "common" that some of you seem to think that Stevie Nicks is. Granted, she is NOT a beautiful 20-22 year old. And I admit that she does not have the voice talent of Christina Aguilera(that chick has a HUGE voice for someone so small). The genius of Stevie Nicks is how she USES her voice. Does she have limited range? Yes. Does she make good use of that limited range? Absolutely. I agree that she has a very "haunting" voice. Also, I don't think that Madonna, Britney, or Christina can even TOUCH her song-writing talent. I have no problems with Madonna's music nor with any of the other two. The biggest problem there is that they sing SOMEONE ELSE's lyrics. They don't have the heartfelt emotion in their songs because they didn't write them about their own ups and downs. Stevie Nicks has has a LOT of ups and downs and she has turned a great deal of those into songs. That seems to be her way of coping and letting it all out. Her songs deal with her own "demons" and her experiences when going through those rough times. I'm not trying to rant or put anybody down.....I just wanted to voice a slightly different perspective on things.

Exactly.

Madonna gets more respect now but it's mainly for her marketing savvy. She still sings Pop-40 music.
