Bill Gates is just the luckiest thief who ever lived.

Steve Jobs actually made something somewhat original, but you can't call him the man because he let a thief beat him.

Shigeru Miyamoto is the man. Where would we be without Mario, Zelda, & Samus Aran?

He stole his first OS. Got caught, got sued and lost in court. Unfortunatly for the peeps who actually did create the thing, the value at that time was low cuz the PC market was rather new and they low-balled the damages they were due (no-one counted on PC selling so well back then).

Then he stole windows from Apple, etc

In the early years, he tried desperately to sell MS to IBM for $100,000. He was as clueless as everyone else.

I get a kick out of peeps thinking he has "vision" and listening to his speeches etc.

But, he is VERY lucky.

I agree with the dude above, it was timing, and luck, plain and simple. Creative dominates the sound card market, yet they make a sub par product. It's because they got in that market when it was an infant. I don't think personally, Bill has done anything that had vision.

"The Man" is usually a powerful person that makes all others do his bidding. Bill Gates is the Man.

Wouldn't mind an Apple OS though, as long as Games were released for it(the top ones(Unreal, BF, etc). Linus would be the Man if he could make an OS(ya, Open Source blabla, used his name because someone else did) that doesn't require Religious devotion to use.

True, forgot about that. The editing software isn't though, which would suck.

1) Carmack or Sweeny (in many way thier Game engine's are like an O/S)

2) however for an O/S my pick is Linus Torvalds for Linux

3) Out of the two options however.. Bill Gates

Well, Steve Jobs sure is far more entertaining, his biggest competition over at MS would be Steve Ballmer without a doubt.

I guess you aren't familiar with XEROX PARC. Jobs got the idea of the mouse/windows from Xerox. Watch Triumph of the Nerds or Pirates of Silicon valley to get fairly accurate stories of how it went down. Bill Gates deserves credit for beating Apple to the punch.

Good artists copy, Great artists steal.

I say Fern is the man. Anyone who can pass off a slashdot post as an actual history of Bill Gates is da bomb.

And Jobs gets way too much credit... Woz is just as responsible for Apple's success as Jobs is

well, Steve is more of a man than Bill is. See, apple suckered Xerox into selling them their ideas. Gates actually stole from apple, and didn't sucker them out of anything.

And who cares if woz was just as instrumental to apple's success. Even when put side by side, Jobs pwns Gates like no other. Apple has survived in a windoze-dominated enviroment and are now making a comeback. Any man that can keep a company going through the times apple has been through has more balls than Der Fuhrer: Wilhelm Gates.

I'd probably go with Steve too. He gave Apple the kick in the pants that Microsoft is sorely needing now. (Personally, I still have high hopes for Longhorn, but we'll see.) But it's worth remembering that while Jobs turned Apple around, he wasn't there for a big stretch of time. And it's also worth remembering that if it wasn't for windoze, Apple would most likely have gone out of business in the 90s. One last thing, from what I've heard of Jobs' temperament, he's more likely to be "Der Fuhrer" than a man who's donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity.
