If you think about it, he's been forcing the MAC world to buy the more expensive PPC counterparts, when he could've been honest from the get go and let people choose their own hardware. :|

I like OSX, but even that tactic is hitting below the belt....

I'll stick with longhorn :p

Soon, the Mac users will realize how Apple has been raping them on prices for all these years.

I doubt it....Steve blowjobs will price the new system just as much....so they will stay in their naive world.

By that time, you can point to the same X86 system with exact specs, but running windows and they will still think MAC is better. This is because each MAC built in the last 5 years has had a brain washing machine secretly built into it....why do you think the hardware cost so much? Now that the brain washing is complete, they don't need to continue with the expensive hw, but still get paid! :p ;)

Why would they realize now? They've been getting screwed for years and constantly bend over and say "Thank you sir, may I have another?". That's not going to change any time soon.

Perhaps apple users are apple users for "style" and "creativity" rather then performance?

A agree that it's stupid to buy a mac when a PC can do so much more for so less, but people have their reasons, and Apple isn't forcing anyone to buy a mac.

Apple sucks, I'd love to see the death of them (well i understand the cons of that happening but their business practices still irk me to death)

no real cons really... at this point, I could care less if m$ was broken up into tiny peices because if they continue down the path with this DRM and TCPA shiet, I'm just going to either have to stick with my older software (which I'm generally ok with) or go linux (still needs to get around to building a linux box...)

They're not helping the industry anymore, just making it worse. They've had years to fix their problems but instead sit on their laurels and don't do shiet. If they got broken up, linux would gain more support therefore allowing more widespread use of an open source operating system which= :)

Before we start hanging Mac users... know that it wasn?t available to anyone on the X86 platform... so if you wanted OSX, then you had to buy the system. Some people just prefer one OS to another and don?t care about $$.

Also... Jobs is a genius for pulling this off... I hate to admit it but really... forcing people to buy the hardware with the software is a smart ass idea.

Bah? I just defended Macs? I feel all dirty and disgusting. :p

Now imagine if Microsoft did the same thing. People would be screaming about monopolies and anti-trust.

your retarded for thinking that dell wouldn't have a student discount... of course they have one, almost every computer company (that is large) has one.

If the windows apps that I need could run seemlessly on a macX86 as well (ie fast) as they do on a pc, I'd almost certainly go back to a mac if it wasn't a huge price increase anymore. The OS has always been much more user-friendly than windows, a much more pleasant experience.

Ever think that beyond the hardware lies the software? As much as I love my PC, I'd definitely buy a Mac right now if I could afford a good G5, because some of the video editing programs are superior as well as some other related programs.

Yeah, but they've been getting away with it all these years by duping their customers into thinking that the Mac is a faster computer. Sure, a top of the line P4 EE or Athlon 64 will destroy a dual G5 setup in most applications, but there is always one or two Photoshop plugins or video editing apps that run better on the PowerPC platform. When it came time to create some new advertising hype, you knew damn that Apple was going to use those benchmarks to hype their products.

Now that the next generation Macs will be using generally the same processors and motherboards that Dell/HP/Lenovo(IBM)/Gateway/etc are using, it will likely become much harder to find those performance advantages with certain applications over a standard PC. In general, Steve Jobs will be asking people to pay around a 20% price premium for a fancier looking box and a different operating system. Sure, the Mac die-hards will probably pay it in a second, but it's a tougher sell to those looking for the best performance on the applications they NEED to do their job.
