Sorry to burst your bubble, but Apple would use patented technology and copyrighted goods too. Why don't you look up who owned the copyright for "iPhone" before Apple appropriated it for itself. Silicon Valley works on the principle that it's easier to ask for forgiveness after than permission before. No tech company in their right mind is going to put its strategic objectives aside while it waits for permission from a potential competitor. If it waits, it's guaranteed to lose, while if it just goes ahead, there is a reasonably good chance that it can win in court or settle outside. And you, as consumer, are a beneficiary of that.

Sorry theres no bubble to burst. What I'm onabout is the way some people say I'm not buying from that company for some deed, but are quite happy to buy from other companys even if said other companys deeds are just as bad.

I just find it really funny and illogical and the only way I can fathom it is to think its some type of fanboy excuse to put some justification to their bias.

I don't stop buying from a product cause they have sued one company over patents, I buy products on if I like them no matter who develops or builds them.

I think the only time I'd stop buying products from a company was if they was involved in killing people, killing animals willfully or polluting/damaging the environment

I don't know of any other CEO that has called the people that buy it's products stupid and have to use the product the way he says for it to work.

Where exactly did he call people who buy its products stupid?

You know he gets pulled up on this a lot, but how many other CEO replied personally to peoples emails? Non that I can recall.

The people screaming about this crap aren't the ones buying or ever planning on buying Apple products anyway.

They use it as rationale for their choices, but the reality is they've typically chosen not to buy Apple's products for other reasons.

I've gone "full apple" (play on full retard) and am quite happy with the results.

I love the integration and interoperability, I could get the same results with different products, but was always tweaking them and having to deal with too many changes all the time.

With complimentary hemorrhoid attack from the reaming you just took to pay for "The full Apple" experience.

Yeah, I had to dig out the lube...

-MacBook Air: No competitors for months, and the UltraBooks are similarly priced.

-iPhone 4 16 GB, $199 with a contract, I bought one off contract for $300

-iPad 2, $499.

Give me a break, anyone that follows prices knows that argument is getting pretty lame...

I'd recommend going with "Steve Jobs ghost is a giant douche" "Apple is trying to kill Android in an anticompetitive patent holy war." "iOS is a walled garden" arguments at this point 🙂

While the Ipad2 has good performance some question the lack of an SD slot, no buying cheap mass storage, pay lots more for the 32 or 64 gig versions. No HDMI or USB either, some tablet users like to use a USB external keyboard, not an option here. Now, other high-end tablets can fetch around the same $$ but lots of people don't want to spend much that ANY brand tablet, Apple or otherwise. Really, it would be nice for the free market to decide which platform to use, if Android is as fragmented and problematic as Apple and MS claim it is then let the consumer decide rather than hurl lawsuits, Patent infringement claims that merit on ridiculous ect..

I've never heard those arguments before, can I subscribe to your newsletter?

Can I get extra points for prompting Anti Apple rants in the right direction?

My wife's iPad 2 mirrors the display via HDMI, hooks up to SD cards, and can connect to my bluetooth keyboard. Sure it all needs adaptors, but so does my Android phone.

Good for you. I am glad you are happy with your choice, but I would like to be able to make a choice for myself, not have one crammed down my throat by Apple's injunctions. Apple is the one trying to kill Android, not the other way around.

I don't understand people who say that they wont buy an apple product ever because the company is evil, when they have no intention of buying one anyway regardless.

Great, after top-of the-industry prices for a tablet you get to shell out an extra $60-80 for adapters that ANY android based tablet comes with standard but hey, if you like getting bent over that's your business..

Yeah because buying 3rd party adapters are out of the question.

It's not an argument, it's a fact and I wasn't even anti-Apple until recently when faced with rapidly losing market share they started to cry foul, poor Apple, no more monopoly with which to gouge the fuck out of customers, let's sue 'em!, how dare they!..

You just spent $500 for a supposedly best-in-class tablet, YOU'VE ALREADY SPENT ENOUGH!, YOUR MACHINE SHOULD NOT NEED ADAPTERS OF ANY KIND, oh, wait, selling accessories to dumbass fanbois is another way for us to grab more profit!

Warning for mild personal attack
It's not clear to me if you are accusing anyone specifically posting in this thread of being a certain fanboi but I'll err on the side of caution. If you see somone clearly posting as a over-top-fan, please report the post and I'll infract for thread crapping. In this case, I'm asking you to tone your attitude down a notch and to avoid labelling people.

Thanks

I would encourage you to not purchase one then. 30 million other people don't agree with you though.

That's concerning.. for Amazon and it's razor thin profit margins. Microsoft is targeting OEM's, not Google. The same OEM's that also happen to make WP7 phones...

By a joke of a patent system.
Anyway, few other industries play like this. Automotive technologies rarely go this route. But when they do, they don't go this far.
Suck it up, Apple will lose this fight too. Jobs didn't want to make Samsung change, he wanted to kill Android. Won't happen.

The patent system is what it is. And every single industry is like this. The difference in the current cell phone industry is the growth of a new market segment. The touch based smart phone industry has seen explosive growth. And it being new, there's going to be a lot of people suing each other back and forth. It happens in every single industry. The reason why older and more established industries do not see similar mass lawsuits is because each player holds many patents and it does no one any good to go nuclear if the known result is mass extinction. They just cross-license their patents and go about their business.

Android has too much momentum to be killed. That's true but Apple has been winning some of these lawsuits in case you were wondering. In fact, judges in at least three countries have made rulings in favor of Apple. While most of these rulings are still subject to change, it does point to the very real possibility of Samsung being bent over by Apple and potentially changing the cell phone landscape.
